IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

Some ground rules to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

>if you are /beg/
Don't ever give advice.
You can relate and share your hardships with other /beg/s, but never give them advice.
If you MUST give advice, start the reply off with "I'm beg, but what worked for me is..."

>Before you post your work
1. Every person giving advice here expects for you to have atleast read some of the sticky, and that you already know what you should be doing to improve.
In that light, replies such as "grind more fundamentals" are perfectly viable advice.
We expect you to know what the general fundamentals are (gesture, anatomy, perspective, drapery, etc.), and we expect you to know where you can find resources to practice these subjects.
Sometimes literally the only good advice to give is to practice more and improve you technique.

2. DO NOT post your 5 minute sketches that you didn't put much thought into. If you do post them then make sure to ask for SPECIFIC advice on a specific subject.
If you post a doodle and ask "where did i go wrong" or "how should I continue from here", expect to get meme replies such as "Loomis".

Follow these simple rules and the generals will become much more productive for both the /beg/s and the people giving advice.

Not much got done this week, but I think I have some idea where to go next. I have problems with pectoral and pelvic girdles, and I need to study proportions and anatomy in general, so I plan to pick up Easy Poser and use models as training wheels until I have the basics right. Is this a good way to progress, or should I go with hardcore anatomy books instead? I have done very little in the way of anatomy studies, I've been mostly copying and referencing anime artists.

I also need to tackle mechanical objects at some point, I wanted to draw a skater but gave up after every skateboard I drew came out looking like a worm on wheels. The right hand is the same, I wanted it to hold railings to support a jump but I couldn't draw either hands or railings to save my life. I ought to sketch background details to see if they're feasible, instead of saying 'I can figure it out later' and wasting two days failing to do that.

Some artists I follow use 3D models on CSP for anything mechanical, and I wanted to switch out of Krita anyway, so I'll give that a try. I should get into detail on arms, hands, clothes and perspective too, and I really should fix my oversized head issue, but these are already on the bucket list.

Some suggestions to start this thread and the next /beg/ threads off:

Give feedback, even if you're unsure of yourself; even if you're wrong, it'll be a learning experience for you when you get corrected.
Make your criticisms conversational, especially if you're of a similar skill level to the anon you're critiquing.

Try to give personalised feedback; most people here aren't newfags, and already know about the existence of loomis and fundamentals.

Don't feel pressured to only post highly rendered or thoughout pieces; your sketches probably showcase some bad habits that you unconsciously do, and you can stil gain a lot of them having critiqued.

what is that thing attached to her lat and arm and why is divided with that line what it is. I can't even imagine where is the delt connected in all that mess.
>left arm and hand in different angles or poorly conveyed
the left arm is straight(a more natural and realaxed would be better) but her hand is rotated inside but the upper part of her glove is still as it were a side view unless it's a large glove and those white lines don't help either with the view
>right leg larger than the other

My knowledge on feet is nonexistent because I just recently started figure drawing but I could give you some tips for shoes: look up for a couple of pictures on 3/4 view or grab your favorite pair of shoes and try to understand it's shape/form.

If this is giving you too much trouble, you could also use wrapping lines to help yourself understand the shape of the shoe and it's perspective. I know you can do this anon.

Is jumping into figure drawing really the best way to start?
I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22XYoenU-0c saying drawing stuff with large margins of error like rock formations and old tree roots is less stressful and builds more confidence than drawing stuff with low margins of error like human figures and faces.
When I followed the video's advice, I enjoyed drawing more and went from procrastinating to practicing 3-4 hours each day. I could focus more on improving my line weight and drawing posture.
So if any anon is struggling a lot with starting out, then maybe give this method a shot?

I suck at drawing anime faces from other angles so I just do fronts on faces and slightly off to the side faces. How do I get used to drawing anime heads from different angles?
>- The poses are too stiff

How do I remedy this? I try to put gesture and push the forms when it's not meant to be a front on pose.

For learning constructional drawing:
I would suggest that you start with perspective first, work your way through either "Perspective Made Easy" by Norling or Marshal's perspective course. After that, Robertson's "How to Draw" book in order to go more in-depth. When you're done with that, you should follow up with his "How to Render" book in order to get the hang of how light works.
Perspective and how to light an object (rendering) are pretty much the very foundation for anything in constructional drawing. Why? You are trying to depict 3D on 2D, and yes, that's the case for abstract art (manga/anime/cartoons) as well.
You can also start with Vilppu's NMA course, but I suggest doing that after the mentioned books and course (Marshal's).
There's no way around it, you will have to dig though these subjects. Better sooner, than later.

If you don't mind my opinion, you should try drawing more challenging poses and perspectives and maybe stop drawing lolis with similar features and force yourself to draw other types of characters with different personalities, looks and body types.
Aim for a finished piece with an actual background, even if it's very simple and rudimentary so you can challenge yourself and improve. Draw two characters interacting with each other.

Are you actually drawing the circles and guidelines and doing exactly what Loomis does when he makes his faces? You said you read the first 30 pages, but you need to actually draw everything in those 30 pages to actually study and understand the technique.

Based, I saw your studies in a prior thread. I'm mostly trying to draw seriously for the first time in a long time because quarantine free time and no more excuses not to. But I also have some very niche fetishes that I would both like to:

A.) Draw the kind of porn I want and

B.) Have the plus of getting good enough that maybe others will like it and I have some side money from drawing shit I would have fapped to regardless.

I dabbled on and off in my teens and early 20s but I was one of those weeb retards that was exasperated at the thought of drawing from life when all I wanted to do was draw coomer anime girls. So now I'm going through Loomis, slowly, bit by bit, to unlearn bad habits from shit How to Draw Manga books.

For gesture, did you just literally look at reference poses and do the Proko thing where you just focus on the major curves? Or who or what book would you recommend? I think your stuff is pretty good and just want to try and get to where you are now.

I've never personally liked proko and I haven't used any books, the best way I can describe it is that I just kinda wing it, starting with the major shapes/ angles like the shoulders and hips and making sure to pay close attention to negative space and relative distance of the different angles to keep things proportional.

By realizing that it's necessary inasmuch as you're getting practice. Unless you mean you start feeling like drawing is pointless, in which case, realize that you're trapped in the very common mindset of the modern age that anything you do is pointless unless you're making loads-e-money from it. Drawing is still inherently a better use of time than something like video games or watching Netflix, because it's a skill that humans have done through the ages. It can be done without technology, anywhere, at any time. It's worth it, as a hobby, and if you DO get good enough, as a way to make a bit of money as a side-benefit.

Read The Skillful Huntsman
Watch Ctrl+Paint free videos on the elements of design
Watch sinix videos about design (Yeah I know sinix sucks but this is one thing he explains well)

You can even google the elements of design and get an understanding of what they are but you're not going to learn to apply them from that.

Look into color psychology and shape language. Look at fashion blogs and draw the clothes as blocks of shapes, then break them up into smaller shapes for the most important details. Get into doing silhouettes and just do a shit-ton of those, playing with shapes and proportion.

I support this, just try your very best and notice when you're doing something wrong and try to do it right.
Success or not, putting your skills to test is what must be done at times, I don't really do "studies". I just start a piece and if my coloring or lineart is failing I simply try to bruteforce my way and do it better on the spot.

Of course, some anons would agree that I need to do studies and practice, myself included.
But I still wanted to say that just focus on doing your best - some other times though you can relax and NOT do your best, your mindlessly doodle for fun, but you're not there yet, it's like fishing or knowing when to shoot and when to cool down your weapon

You just have many obvious inaccuracies compared to the reference. No need to worry about, shading, line quality, etc at this point. Just overlay your drawing to see where you went wrong and work on observing more accurately next time.

study human proportions and start with general shapes, and only when you get these right you should refine them, don't press your pencil so hard, actually look and compare angle and measurements ( and always measure from the short unit into the large one eg; how many hands go into the forearm etc).
Once you stop symboldrawing, get into construction and start over.

Don't force yourself to grind something against your will, or you'll burn out extremely quickly. I'm only saying this because you're a NEET and NEETs have very weak wills.

Just draw the fundies required, finish the drawing, and move onto another one. I'm guessing you probably want to draw loli's so look at loli artists and try to figure out the way they do gesture and the way they draw the body parts. Decrease the opacity of their image and draw a skeleton from their drawing, and then draw your own version from the skeleton. I'm only saying this since I assume you're very, very /beg/
