This shouldn't be a surprise to you. One of the best things about art is that you can process it almost instantly.

The alternative isn't that normies look at your art for minutes or hours, it's that, lacking the sbility to sort the interesting from the trash, they don't even bother looking at all. How many times do you see a book and read the first 30 pages on a whim, knowing nothing except the title?

Instagram isn't meant for art, it's meant for miscellany phone pics. People use it as a gallery site because it's an excellent way to show off a literal wall of your art and give people a fairly comprehensive idea of your art at a glance, but you should really link an ig account to another website that allows you to upload high res images.

Desu shit on deviantart or tumblr all you want, but they're still the best places for amateurs(Artstation is good, but something else). My old works still get likes there, while on instagram and twitter it's as if any new piece dissappears from the face of the planet the day after they're posted. Also, deviantart groups are great for exposure, and tumblr tags seem to actually work.
