Once I finish the first rendition of the lineart I lose all will to continue to work on it even though there are things I know I need to fix or improve.

theres a lot of mistakes the major ones are the jaw maxilar idk if that hows called, the ear is way too fucking in the back , the neck is either in a complete different angle or is her head clipping in to his neck and the mouth is a bit too high and the angle should be tilted a tad more down.also his jaw looks like a potato

now maybe this is just me but i swear that his head is in a complete different angle from his face or viceversa, the side of his head looks more like a view of the actual face but rotated more to the left and the top of his head it looks like is way more rotated counterclockwise than his face that's my impression.

Okay /ic/, I have created a plan for my coronavirus weekend since I don't have the distraction of work.
I'm taking advice from this post in the previous thread.
TL;DR:
1. simple still lives of apples, oranges, cylindrical objects. x5 (spend hour or two on each)
2. landscape studies, from images x5 (spend hour or two on each)
3. pick up books:
-anatomy for the artist
-charles bargue book of lithographs for drawing
-art models companion disks on amazon
print a bunch (or photoshop) and copy using a grid
4.do above steps and post, get critiqued, and rinse & repeat with different still lifes and models.

Does anyone have anything else to add to this?

Pretty solid. Try to keep in mind the relativity of color, that a red or a brown in shadow isn't as warm as it is in light. In this image, the shadow hues are the same temperature as the light, making everything seem very flat. Try tipping the hue of the shadowed background towards blue. It'll make the character pop and provide nice visual clarity.

You can look at the cat, try to see it as 3D volumes, and then go to your paper and try to draw it. Compare, refine your mental conception of those volumes, draw again. Draw in many different poses this way, first based on life, but as soon as you get a feel for it, start imagining the pose, but still comparing your result with life.

Basically trying to see the cat as 3D volumes and then trying to draw that from memory, and comparing. It’ll make it obvious to yourself which aspects of the cat you haven’t paid proper attention to to be able to remember it

Getting more vibrant colors can only be done if you consciously use use them while working. Things I can suggest:

1) Make a Palette before work.
If you haven't done so plan and check your colors first before you start adding details or rendering and use the palette for picking colors and stick to them. That your base colors should be fine.

2) Since we have digital tech try tonal correction, adjust saturation and luminosity. You can even do this after you are finished with the rendering.
On the overprint I started by +10 Saturation and +10 Luminosity.

3) Check your screen settings, maybe your screen has too high saturation by default that distorts your observation. Maybe you have a software on that auto dims the screen based on the time of day (and speaking of).

4) Keep the time of day and other light s in your environment in mind, like it or not the light around you in the room will constantly affect how perceive your work even without you realizing. I know this because I work by the window and stuff I do during the morning/day will always look muddy when I look at it in the evening.

I did a quick redline

If you really want to add "soul" to your work study the works of animators. They're really good at it.

Here are a couple things to focus on in terms of drawing

-expression( exaggerate your faces)
-posing ( If you're going to going for a standing pose, try shifting the angles, it'll creature more interest)
-Gesture ( do gesture drawings, it will help you come up with more interesting posing
-add a story to your drawing, have your interact with another character perhaps or have a background that can set a mood,

Good luck

When you want to study something, you just don't copy mindlessly what you want to acknowledge, you have to deeply understand how it works; if not, you're gonna forget everything just by drawing another subject in a couple of days, plus you'll never be able to replicate the same exercise on your own without the guidelines, and just by changing the angle of your subject you'll find yourself lost, cause you really never understand it, you've just copied it from one angle until you told yourself that it was "decent enough"

Okay, I'll just throw in the towel here. This is bad. Head is too big, the forearm doesn't bend that way, and the torso seems flat rather than a 3D object. But it's probably better to return to practicing instead of trying to fix everything.

I still don't finish my sketches properly before trying to color them, which makes adding e.g. hands a disaster. I need to fix that habit. Also need to study expressions and clothes, start on perspective, and find a better method of shading than just the airbrush.

I'm the last person to talk about getting good, but what I do is finding artists who improved really fast and kept their sketches around. Then I study/copy some of their art that is basic enough for me to understand. Once I understand it, I'll try to study something slightly more complex.

For example, I looked at Rindou's earlier art for the outfit up there, and I did a really bad job of it, so I should copy some of him later to help with that. Cutesexyrobutts is another good choice because he's got a lot of material around, even though he's obviously three GANs in a trench coat.

But I've just started doing this, so I don't know how effective it's going to be in the long run. All I've learned is spending an entire week on airbrushing the bejeezus out of a /beg/ sketch.
