my first reaction is the darks are not dark enough. the center panel it looks like she's reaching into a shadow instead of under a material.

the ~10-11 o'clock frame is a good example. Where the hand is grasping her hand, it all sort of blends together. ~8-9 o'clock the forearm and the feller's hair sort of blends to me. I understand you're not going for great realism, so maybe rendering out that too much would defeat the purpose.

could you easily try changing the underwear to purple and use the original underwear color her shadows?

Oh yeah okay lol, I read Scott Roberstsons book and it was super easy in theory but 2 years later I am still struggling with getting it right. The pose probably doesn't look great because it isn't supposed to be a nude, its a girl holding her skirt up originally so thats probably why its looking awkward.

Looking good. Some of the hatching reads a bit flat. If you shaded with the shape of the planes in mind it would improve it even more, I'm sure of it. Think more in 3D. Same goes for the guy's shirt and jacket. You did a great job with the light and shadows of her hair and rounding out the shapes the shading.

Just because you're drawing anime looking characters doesn't mean it's natural to make all your faces look exactly the same, anyone who tells you otherwise is full of shit. Thanks, emulating Kawamori was what I had in mind when I was designing that.
Linework is something I've been trying to get better at, but there's not really any magical tips I've found that can improve it immediately so at this point I think I'm just gonna continue grinding at it till it gets better.
As for a rendering style I'm actually not entirely sure yet what I want to go for which is another part of the issue.
That's why I've been trying to push my self to begin attempting pieces so I can make the mistakes and learn where to go next.

My end goal is to develop 4 styles of rendering for sketches, concept art and complete pieces.
For finished pieces I like stuff like the top left side of pic related that has a more painterly and scenic look to it and also stylized works like the top right.
And I also want to develop a rougher/simpler rendering style(bottom left) I can use for quickly hammering out ideas and a more technical looking one(bottom right) for getting more specific details on finalized designs.

I went with the tooth smile one. I also refined the hair a bit more it was too poofy on top and i added some length. There aren't any cast or deep shadows of much highlights yet. I am not sure if the smile face looks right or not.

I think I've still got a long way to go, but basically I just drew lots of figures from reference and imagination. Anatomy for Sculptors is great for the nitty gritty anatomy details. I started digital art almost 2 years ago and just watching speedpaints and stuff got me familiar with the basic techniques. mostly, just draw every day and when you're stumped on something just study it a bit
