There was something similar in AGDG on /vg/, but IMO much worse. There was one guy who would completely, utterly ruin the threads when he was around. When he was gone, it was really a nice thread full of game dev discussion.
But at a certain time of day, he would appear, and for the next 10 hours he would constantly barrage the thread with repeated catchphrases and fake arguments, which would evolve and change depending on whatever false drama suited him at the moment.
People made big filter lists to try to hide his posts, but it was never fully effective because his shitposting often would encompass a third or more of the thread, and he wasn't always totally blatant either. Sometimes he would start with genuine sounding questions or ideas and then slowly lead the conversation into an endless, pointless argument about nothing which eventually would lead into his typical topics.
He did this stuff constantly for at least a year.
I hate to say it but I stopped going to that thread primarily because of him. It's probably recovered by now, but man those were dark times. I can't help but be grateful this isn't so bad honestly.
