What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.
>I came for anime. Why does the image OP say cartoons general?
To distinguish from the anime study thread (janitor supported). Please post your studies there and personal work goes here.

The character herself is very cute and gives off a lot of personality. Very comfy indeed. I don't understand what's supposed to be going on in the rest of the piece however. I can tell there's a sun in the background with some skulls coming out of it--it's an interesting idea that could be further developed--but idk what the rainbow is supposed to convey. I like your character design a lot but this piece seems more like a wip than a finished piece that has been fully thought through.

I think you should study perspective and how it effects the shape of the character. Her feet should be more horizontal and the top should be more apparent. She's pretty cute and could use a bit of concreteness to here. Pic related from loomis. Life changing imo.

>>4432294
Looks incredible dude. I would say it's working perfectly if you're aiming the skele-bros to be a bunch of worbly terror that you can't quite make up. If your aim is to make each skeleton distinct, then you didn't succeed. If you want it to look more "colossal", I would say put more details, I can't tell you how though. Not educated on that.

That’s really interesting and fair as a critique. Colors always seem brighter on my Cintiq and duller on my regular monitor, so I should probably calibrate it a bit better.

I think I get what you’re saying about the colors not matching the intensity. Something like a different sharper and more saturated palette would have helped, right?

>> No.4432349

Yeah I was trying to make all the skulls and bones melt into each other indistinctly to give the impression of a mutated Lovecraftian deer monster, so that was deliberate. But I agree it would be more effective if it looked gigantic. Had I paid more attention to perspective and maybe set the horizon line low, the monster could have looked hundreds of feet tall instead of 8 feet or whatever. Your Loomis chart is very helpful, it's reminding me that I need to brush up on my perspective fundamentals.

Second one looks best with the combination of features, although the third shows emotion a bit better. It’s boring because you’re just drawing someone facing forward with very little facial expression. Are they supposed to be concerned? Nervous? Its hard to tell because theyre sitting up straight, the eyes are fully open, the mouth is neutral and the only thing conveying emotion is the eyebrows and the eyes shifting to the side. You need to study how people convey emotion and learn to exaggerate it in art.
They all read differently to me. The first looks like theyre trying to hide a smile, the second looks mildly sad, and the third looks nervous,

I like the aesthetic you're going for. I like the expression you have in the first panel but the eyes are very uneven in size and placement, the nose and ear lack definition. Also hands. I'd also suggest having your hatching follow the form it's describing rather than placing it flat. You do it correctly along the hair on both panels and that lip on the opening in the third, for example, but then don't along the neck and some patches of the robe.
