I think people in /ic/ can be confused between what an artist and a craftsmen is.

For example, people who draw coom art are craftsmen. They are creating art but not necessary an artists.

Coom art is under low art, art that even the illiterate can understand. Craftsmen mainly create functional art. Artist create contemplation, high art.

Coomers faps to coom art. It has a function in society. This does not mean low art is anything less valuable than high art. In fact, low art can pay well.

If you talk about craftsmen, they tend to be leftists. Comics/illustrators/coom-art, etc.

If you talk about artists, they tend to be right wing.

If your definition of "making it" is to attain fame and fortune within your lifetime, then obviously the safe route is to keep your politics to a mininum, whatever they are, and absolutely stay away from it altogether publicly if you're right of center in current year.

If you ask me, you're making it if you enjoy what you do, and can make some money on the side (even if it's not enough to do art full time, which, let me tell you, is sometimes not as wonderful as you might think). And to do that, it doesn't matter what your politics are.

Being a right wing artist is frustrating at times, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Clearly there aren't as many of us, and we have a refreshing perspective if we can channel it into our art. We have an actual chance of exposing people to something they don't understand, which is a big part of what makes some art successful.
