why am I better at drawing with eyes closed? opening once every 10 or so seconds to check position, but no construction lines or thought into perspective etc; and it always looks better than otherwise, at least to my preference? what does it mean?

Like everyone said, it's stiff and awkward, try to draw something you could realistically perform yourself or draw from reference
On top of this, don't be sloppy, nail down those forms and how they interlock don't just gloss over it with a multitude of lines show u understand it for real by making it clean and you might realize you don't get them as much as u think u do. Once you can interlock 3d forms in space with no overlap or line messiness it'll be 10x better

A. Add texture properly by line or by shape
B. Scale figures in 2 point perspective

m8 built a few more walls before you worry about how to texture them. youve got a start here. as for figures i mean... the same rules apply to humans as anything else in perspective. i generally advise drawing people are boxes in situations with tricky perspective. use horizontal landmarks. the eyes, shoulders, tits, hips, knees.

try something and when you mess up we'll correct you.

that's why you got to learn the secret technique: Kill em in one hit.

It's where you learn to draw without using reference or guidelines or proportions, getting it right the first try with a pen. Once you know how to do that for all the basic stuff, it's pretty easy to come up with things on the spot.

Don't do stuff that makes you uncomfortable, just do the first thing that works. And it has to work btw, as in look good. You should try to make it come out right from the beginning. So long as you do the first part right, the rest should come out right.

There's a difference between 'turd polishing' and 'actually getting to do more than a basic sketch'. I think you should do at least 1 a day where you take it further than the sketch phase, just to practice. What good are your proportions and gesturing when you can't ink and color it properly? Unless you just want to be a sketch cuck forever.
As for your latest pic, her right arm is a wet noodle, it needs to bend at a sharper angle. Arms can be broken into 3 basic pieces, two cylinders and a ball to hold them together. What you have there is a piece of elbow macaroni.

Do the drawabox lessons end with the animal construction?
And also, is the construction in drawabox very loose? Cause like, I'd imagine the guy would use perspective lines to build the animals but it seems loose and much more focused on feeling the form as opposed to a more rigorous method involving perspective. Am I wrong?

How do you learn figure drawing? I've watched so many videos of people and in the title they claim their gonna teach you how to do it but they don't. They teach you a mannequin. You they tell you to learn anatomy. But how do you combine that? I like the way Bridgman breaks down the body. But where do you learn that? His books are hand written cryptic and the pictures aren't clear. I think Ron lemen seems like he understands it but he only has like 2 videos about it and I guess the rest is behind a pay wall. I can just keep doing what I'm doing and have you guys tell me it's shit but I want to know what the specific mistakes are and how to fix them. I don't want to keep doing it shittily.

You shouldn't be using line tools and assistants for these, that way you end up with a good result but don't learn much.
Draw the lines with your hand and try to feel how the tip of your pen is pushing further back into the paper, feeling the depth.

My advice on the shadows is don't worry about it yet.

Currently the underlying drawing and her body structure is weak and no better shading would make it better, you're polishing something not worthy of polish. The knees are especially wretched and the navel crack is just, don't fucking do the navel cracks man, the abdominal vagina is fucking sickening, it's ugly, it's a meme the Pixiv low skill are learning from the shitty tutorials the other lowskills make like a human centipede.

The pink Pixiv highlights also look a bit like swollen inflamed massive fucking zits, I personally HATE the pink highlights they make, it's a bad meme not worth following. When I see a highlight outlined with pink I can't help but imagine a festering infection and skin ready to burst with pus.

Robertson himself uses a fucking ruler for that, he's not freehanding his geometry and perspective grids.

You're supposed to learn the fucking geometry from that so you would feel comfortable doing some technical or architectural drawings like a fucking hangar with a battlemech in it with just straight lines.

It's complicated.
In the natural sunlight the lit areas are blasted with powerful yellow light while the shadows are getting diffused blue light so the skin would get desaturated since it's pink + blue.

But the lighting conditions might be fucking anything you might be in a red room lit with a blue lamp, you can be at a rave.

Yeah.
Look at the moon, it's a ball surrounded by fucking nothing so you can't see the shaded area at all.

if a characters base colour is very light yellow, should I use an even darker yellow/brown or does a reddish work?

>the kneecaps should be more on the front and centered?
Yeah. But seriously study harder, if you don't know what you need and don't have a strong vision nothing is gonna come out well.
>to imply a bulge/split for the stomach.
I know, BUT a solid shadow or even worse a line art makes it look like a hard edge. Hard edge reads as if she has an abdominal vagina and it looks terrifying.
You should only do it VERY softly or just omit it if your shadows are all hard.
>or does a reddish work?
Depends on the scene, you can find orange, red or even purple shadows on the good pictures from good artists. It generally moves towards that way on the color circle, but how far is your call as an artist. You can make green skin work next to a purple shadow if you want extreme contrast.
Take a good picture and poke it with a color picker for research (don't just steal colors mindlessly though it's a study)
There's a lot to learn really, focus in the drawing first.
>why the hate on pixiv, I thought deviantart was know as the place with the worst art?
Pixiv is full of wonderful and mind blowing works. But there's also some awful shit just like on DA as well. Neither Pixiv nor DA have any quality standards or filters.

Perspective on the sword is fine dunno what you're talking about, and if you disagree I'd like you to demonstrate what's wrong with it.
And it's been said many times on this board before but "chicken scratching ≠ everything that isn't perfect finished linework with every stroke"
Chicken scratching is the attempt to use a bunch of short lines to create a line that you could reasonably have created with a single smooth line.
Also imo chicken scratching would have to be the rule and not the exception, you could cherry-pick every artist by zooming in on some place (like you did) where they didn't hit the line exactly right and call them a chicken-scratching scrub.

Drawing is less teachable than a lot of other skills. You mostly just have to grind for thousands of hours and learn things through trial and error. Copying art that you want to emulate and trying to make your own works match that helps.
People on this board won't usually be able to point out specific mistakes in your work because they are also shitty /beg/s.
I think the best way to study anatomy is, draw something from imagination, identify a part of the drawing that is wrong, go look up the anatomy of that part of the body, redo the drawing but make it better this time. Studying anatomy only really makes sense in the context of drawing from imagination. That's when you need anatomical knowledge.
You literally cannot avoid thousands of hours of shitty drawings before you get good, unless you're talented (and I'm guessing you're not). There's nothing anyone can tell you that will make you draw well, you just have to practice.
Hope that helps.
