Two factors for me:
1. As time goes on, I'm actually starting to seeing reasons not to post on /ic/. I never thought I'd genuinely think it could be problematic to post here, but there's very little to gain from posting your blog here and potentially something to lose. 4chan is becoming more and more shunned in the public eye (undoubtedly due to /pol/tards) that the risk of any potential association with this shit hole is not worth it. And worth what, exactly? A few extra followers? A few (You)'s? I've had retards that are obviously from /ic/ come in and comment all sorts of toxic bullshit on my posts. It's easy to delete, but still - what's the point?

2. These threads are usually just a bore-fest. There's nothing exciting about a dump of blog links. These threads are always way more entertaining when some asshole comes in and critiques everyone's work and starts a bunch of drama.

Also - the fact that 4chan has had a bad reputation for a long time now was not quite my point. My point is that 4chan, in my opinion, has become much, much more of a household name in the past ~5 years. That continued rise in public awareness is unarguably tied to alt-right bullshit and /pol/. For users of smaller hobby boards, they'll know that the /pol/ content is much more played down and has nothing to do with their board. But to your average person, any board - regardless of subject matter - is just one big /pol/ "4chan", and it's more in the news now than it has ever been.

Fun fact: /ic/ was actually name dropped on NPR not too long ago. They did yet another 4chan segment and were talking about /pol/, and some guy was trying to say that not all boards are the same, and pointed out how /ck/, /ic/ and a few other niche boards are much more innocent. Still, the focus of the segment revolved around /pol/. 4chan is name dropped more and more on all sorts of different media outlets, and it is never, NEVER positive.

Da is easy, just post, that's it, is you want to try to get some other gains, join groups related to the kind of content you make, just some people tend to use those groups to actually talk, just the normies, artists mostly use them to expand their zone, so you join a group, read their norms and upload oyur drawings as allways, then go to the groups and select the option to contribute with art, and select the correct folder according with your art, and that's it,
for example, if you draw big tits anthro wolf, probably you have to join a furry or anthro group for mature content, then search the folder (like.. "big tits", "mammals", etc) and put the work there, some fanart groups make folders from nintendo, games, anime, etc, read the rules are just to know what things you can put, and how many, because some accept one work per day, others mores, other less, some have automatic accept, in others admins approve the work before. In the paper sound a little large to do, but is very easy, some people tend to put works in more than 20 groups, even 50 or 80.
If you want to do next level shit that is make a group with you as the main admin, make it grow and then promote your art there, some people have very big groups and draw like shit, but is a waste of time if you are a busy guy.

In general you just need to upload, and put the correct tags, nothing more

Work on landscapes and backgrounds (but desu I need to work on pretty much everything), make a decent enough portfolio with a lot of different stuff. Learn new things (3D), maybe open commissions ? Never made the leap.

How about instead of making baseless excuses, you actually examine >>4292209 's pages to try and see why they have so few followers? I did, and - big surprise - it's pretty blatantly obvious. Here's a few obvious reasons:

1. The biggest issue is just a lack of posting their own work (twitter has several reposts, Instagram is more clear). At best, they post 2-3 times a month. There are huge gaps spanning almost 2 months between their posts. If this person actually wanted to grow their following, then this is a terrible and sporadic posting schedule to keep. This is the #1 issue to not having more followers. If you don't post regularly, you will grow at a snails pace. Not posting enough is especially a missed opportunity for this guy since he actually has a great engagement rate (atleast on IG). The ~200 followers he does have seem to love his work.
2. They really aren't "so great at art". Some of the studies are okay, and their fundamental skills are alright, but what are they making? Stiff, awkward character art of attractive women that are usually unfinished. The rest is mediocre studies. Looks like the work of thousands of other similar digital artist. There is no unique stylistic selling point to their work. Again - it's not bad, it's just nothing special.
3. Hashtag use is a little unoptimized, There are some hashtags, but there could be more.

Remember that this artist clearly states they are a hobbyist in their profile. The fact that they only have 200 followers is not a big deal, and they seem to be enjoying their work - that's great for them. Telling them they're "NGMI" because they don't post lewds or fan art is just dumb.

The linked artists work is good, not fantastic some of their imaginative work like the most recent mecha girl is really cool, but mostly they just post pretty generic portraits and studies, if they posted more regularly with their own cool character designs they would have more followers.

And as you said they make pretty piss-poor use of hashtags so this is a big one, you won't grow if people don't see your work, and if you only post using random hastags that noone follows, or generic ones that millions follow, your work isn't getting onto anyone's screen.
