I'm just getting started with art, so I decided to finally try that upside down Picasso thing. it was definitely a neat exercise, and I noticed alot of small details I wouldn't have seen if I was just quickly looking it over.

I also found out my posture is all fucked up, as you can see I drew the nose is way too long, since I was at a bad angle from what I was drawing (this fucked up the size of the head as a result). I also ran out of space at the bottom of the paper and made several other mistakes, but I still like how it turned out.

Don't worry about it. We all have stuff going on in our lives. Just try to draw more and make sure you have something to fall on for those "I don't know what to draw" moments. Art is a skill you need to practice. You know this. So go and practice. And read and study books. Treat it like any other skill. You're 27, at least you have some maturity in you and understanding that learning a skill requires work. You also probably have a more limited time than a 17 year old. Use that to your advantage and laser focus your studying.

It's hard, for me, to tell soul from busts and portraits. But your gestures are nice. Keep at it.

Be careful when polishing and adding lineart though. That's where a lot of soul is lost because you lose that sketchy feel.

the jaw on the girl shouldnt be that bent. You only see the curvature in the jaw like that at EXTREME angles. Angles where you begin to lose sight of the face. At this angle the jaw should be flattened at the chin with some curvature upwards into the cheeks.

There's some really nice rhythm in some of your lines. I'm looking at the girl in the centre with her arms stretched in front of her -- the arms are just great. That said it's clear when you're less certain about a pose. The gesture becomes less convincing and the lines less confident. It's a mileage thing, usually, so keep drawing from reference and applying what you've learned from imagination.

Yeah that's exactly what it is. At first I thought her torso was too long, but the problem is that you're not emphasizing the perspective. I did a shitty red line to try and figure it out and it turns out that they're both basically the same sizes, but your lack of clues that this is foreshortened makes it look flat.

The most obvious thing I found when drawing torso bending like that is to pay a lot of attention to the middle line that goes from the bottom of the ribs, to the navel, to the groin. Yours is flattened out, whereas in the ref it bends a lot.

I don't know what your hand looks like, so I hesitate to critique stuff like this, but from a generic hand standpoint:

1. It's not as bad as you think.
2. The fleshy part that the thumb pushes against when it's curled like that isn't big enough.
3. The thumb's knuckle on the left side is too far out extruding from the palm. If you fix this the drawing will immediately be 60% better.
4. The fingers don't look curled enough so it's making them look longer than they are (also I don't think you can have this pose with the fingers flat like that, but that just might be me). That said...
5. The fingers are too long. Especially the pinky.

It's really not that bad though. Keep going. The problem I have with that book is that it's all about COPYING what you see, and so you don't get to do things like contour lines to show the forms and direction of said forms. For example, to help sell the illusion that the fingers are curled, you could turn the wrinkles on the knuckles into "smiling" curves.

Honestly if you want some of my advice on making the process a little easier, what I normally do is block in the big shapes and composition, either digitally or physically on one sheet, then trace over it on a new sheet on a lightbox adding details as I go, so I don't have to worry about dealing with construction and details on the same page.

Yeah if you're worried about keeping every little detail in perspective while drawing the whole thing you're just going to have a mess. Better to conceptualize the big stuff, then go in for the details on another sheet.

I watched an old video of Syd Mead doing a big painting from beginning to end and you could see how he processed it as he transferred it from initial sketch on one sheet, to cleaned up layout drawing, to the big sheet where he did the final painting.

Each step sharpened and refined the original concept.

Here's a fox i started drawing. It looks messy because of all the erasing and redrawing I did. That and I didn't spend much time on it. Also are you able to tell if She's female just by looking at this? I almost always draw male characters so I'm trying to learn how to accentuate the female form.

Looks good. To take it further I might suggest looking at their skeletons (not necessarily drawing them, but you can) and watching some videos of them in motion to strengthen your understanding of how they move. I say this because some of the gestures you drew aren't very convincing.

An idiot goddess cursed her, causing her to encounter herself from different dimensions. The things that orbit her represent her connection to those doppelgangers.
The fairy experiences premonitions of how to fix the curse, but also hates her.

These are really cool, my dude. You should work a bit on your polish (making sure color makes it up to the line, making sure lines close and meet up properly, making things a little less sketchy in places, stuff like that). And also, hands (I see you always cropping or hiding one hand).
