Okay I'll try to summarize it.

The thing about "friendzone" situations like this is the mutual misunderstanding of the thinking of men and women.

Women are mistaken that a male "friend" that gives them attention is a honest friendship. Of course people enjoy attention given to them.

No matter where you are, or what you're doing, I hope that your winter holiday has been restful. I know a lot of you have been working really hard, be it on art, or gifts for other dads. It's really heartening to sometimes see how connected the community has gotten, from doing secret santa art exchanges to literally living together. Rest assured, I'm still mulling over the finer details of your super-belated gift, and one of the most important aspects of those pieces of development is finding ways to bring the community as a whole closer together. DAD is, in a lot of ways, just like a family to me and I hope it is to you as well.

In keeping with the transparency I wanted to maintain since I started administration of the site, and as sort of fun mini-gift, I've opened an ask/suggestion/comment/shitpost/complaint page briefly for anyone who wants to anonymously ask any question they may have about the DAD site, the upcoming development, planned features, the community at large or about myself. As long as you post your question before New Year's Day (GMT-6), I'll make sure to answer it. There are some ground rules though. I won't answer anything that:

I have been to art kings and it is worse than dad/las is every way, from skill level to community. People are harsher with their criticism, but they are not any better informed. It is a bunch of /beg/s circling around nose bro because acting like a cunt and being an attention whore on /ic/ = good artist. There was a grand total of maybe one knowledgeable artist in the server when I was there, because every other decent artist quickly leaves when they realize what a shithole it is.

Sounds like you might be trying to shove too much information in your head at once when studying, and/or you need to go back to fundies.
Try to narrow down what you're studying, then apply it to an image that strongly focuses in on whatever you were studying.
It wasn't until I went back to drawing basic shapes in space that studying finally started to work for me again... you really need to continue to work on fundamentals for studying to work.

I think a lot of people here have a totally wrong idea about learning to make art.
Lots of people just copy reference, but that only helps you learn to copy reference, and accumulate some "ambient knowledge".
Producing an image from imagination is a much different process.
In my opinion the best way to get better is quite simple in concept: try to make the pictures you want to make, over and over.
Where shit's fucked up, try to make it not fucked up. Try really hard to un-fuck it up. This is where you learn everything. It will lead you to observe reference and other art, compare it to yours, research, whatever. You try to identify and fix your picture's problems and maximize its coolness for yourself.
The knowledge you gain is more specific, you retain it much more easily, you have an end result you can call your artistic output, and you figure out your own creative process.
I really don't see much reason to do isolated copies when the more direct and obvious way to learn how to make the art you want to make is to... try to make the art you want to make.

You got better with lighting over the past few months, which definitely makes your pictures look more lively. Sometimes parts of your drawings look like they originate from a rigid 3D enviorment (November tower flags completely unaffected by wind, while the ones on top suggest a strong wind, etc). Yes, I agree on the benefits of studying masters.
But trying to make art you want to make will necessarily bring you to studying masters and learning those techniques in a more effective way.
It's more effective because your studying is being directly applied to an artwork that you care about, and you have a much more specific goal in mind (whatever the goal of your image is), which helps your mind retain more knowledge as it relates to that goal.
Just copying a master without any other goal that copying the master runs the risk of just copying the surface visual information and learning nothing from it. You can easily copy a master without learning anything.
But you cannot try to make art you like, and try to solve the numerous specific problems that doing so presents, without figuring out the relevant shit and improving as the kind of artist you want to be.
Unless, that is, when you compare your art to an artist you aspire to you think "Yes, mine is just as effective and I can discern no differences in knowledge, skill or technique even upon close analysis, and cannot even make a guess at how to improve my image right now."
The key difference is "right now" as opposed to studying in a vacuum for art you might make "later".

You have the analytical capability already to compare your work to artists you like, find the differences and try to implement improvements in your work.

20 finished pages is a lot, especially considering barely anyone is experienced in comics. It requires 100% full attention for the entire month so even disregarding that it's December you're gonna lose pretty much everyone.
