This hatching not even that great, mate, it's "figure it out yourself, kek"-tier. As for hatching in general, there is two tips: hatch along form and use intensity of hatching to show form/lighting of object. Keep in mind that hatching is abstract representation of 3d forms in 2d plane.

For hatching and penwork Guptil's book can be useful.

That's a nice boot and I usually quite like stylized work that's very carefully rendered, but even I'm not quite sure that it works here.
Still, since it's a test I would actually finish both. That way you'll know for sure what works for you and what doesn't. Maybe keep the hair on the more graphic one as simple shapes and just add a bit of cell shading? Approach the two versions completely differently.

Damn the improvement on this went from shitty deviantart to actually good painting overnight. Color choices are on point, although I would personally warm up the highlights and tint down the shadows just a bit more. You can probably throw highlights along some of the edges such as the bottom edge of the breastplate and the top rim of the pauldrons to give a slight bevel and really crisp them up with a touch of rim light.

Try to clean up your lines a little, make them more confident and less chicken-scratchy. That alone can go a long way towards making something more presentable. Also erase parts where objects overlap each other and shouldn't be visible.
Look at some refs for hands too, that's where people look the most after faces.

I fucking hate this drawing. You're trying to have your cake and it too. You want to make an emotional drawing, but also sexy anime girl fan art.
There are also minor flaws in the anatomy and the line weight is inconsistent

Nothing about her body language is expressing her emotion. You've exaggerated her proportions to draw focus to her hips and legs and ass, despite Asuka having a relatively lean body/petite frame.

If you intend to "do better next time" you need to make an effort to get out of your comfort zone.
