I won't give this youtube trash a click, but I have read a blog by an actual Japanese mangaka who's probably orders of magnitude better than this guy and he has a column with advice for assistants. He says you should bring blankets in the winter because studios save up on heating, there is no toilet paper so you have to bring your own, and you should bring bottles of tea "to help yourself stay awake"
This isn't even in a bitter tone as if denouncing the awful state of the industry, it's friendly, helpful tips if you're getting started

The guy in the video is serialized in a weekly magazine (Kodansha’s one), and is the creator of a multimillion best seller. He has two homes and a studio, and seems to live fairly affluently, enough to support a family, staff 5 assistants, build his own home, and own multiple Cintiq stations. Every week, he takes his staff out to dinner to celebrate a finished chapter. They draw 2-3 days, he writes for 3-4. Gets a healthy 7 hours of sleep a day.

I read the same blog you did. Your situation as a mangaka will depend on a variety of factors, but to say it’s the reality for most is overplaying it a whole lot.

I also noticed that mangaka who pushes the "muh 20 hours a day" lifestyle usually draws like shit.
They prioritize desperately pushing out as much pages as possible for the sake of rent money rather than maintaining their quality. Their fundamentals tend to be all over the place.

Like you said, mangaka that are actually good at drawing like Yoshikadu tend to lead a healthy lifestyle WHILE working super hard. Which is not surprising at all, imagine the state of mush your brain is in from sustaining such a shit lifestyle.

Overall, all sources seem to line up the same, and your lifestyle will depend on what you make of what you get, and how popular you manage to become. Weekly is more competitive, but lends a higher chance of making it big. Weekly you also get higher commission. The rate is roughly ¥10,000 - ¥20,000 page. So, pushing out 80 pages a week, you’re looking at good money on commissions pre-royalties, this lets you afford assistants, which make your life easier, especially if you’re working in digital.

The art inside the books is pretty good, and it was popular enough for a live action adaptation. That said, there’s a lot to be said about target audience and appeal. Obviously, a manga like this is rather niche. There’s a reason most manga is made to appeal to teens. That said, he still made pretty decent bank, and despite his complaints, he’s way better off than his western counterparts, where a comic/manga that niche, doesn’t even make enough to make ends meet, even AFTER royalties. You also have to factor in that he worked in Traditional, which adds an added overhead cost of $1000 a month on supplies.

His points are fairly good ones though, there’s a huge income disparity between the top 100 mangaka, and the remaining 3000+. The rest still make enough to live off of though, you’re just a lot tighter. A lot of the complaints come from the fact that the industry isn’t well suited for the unpopular, with companies generally offering bad deals, and that online is a better platform for those who wanna be more niche. It’s a sort of protest toward the industry, where you’re selling 100,000s to millions of book, but still only see a small fraction of that money. So you gotta put it into perspective. Is it bad? Kinda? But only if you’re not in the top 100, and top 100 is still a lot mind you. That said, it’s still better than what you’d get in the west.

If you shoot for weekly however, you’ll probably be alright... IF you make it.

Mangakas are use a lot of references, also they use a lot of digital tricks for backgrouds. they slowly make better at drawing but a lot just make the same things over and over again, i don't see this mangaka become as good as Takehiko Inoue, but you dont need to be that good to make a manga that sells, he studied 2 years so he could be an assistant where he learn a lot more about become a mangaka, think about this, where would you learn more about a specialiced job? they cut corners wherever they can so they can meet the deadline.

Is ok to do that, but still i would love Inoue and Miura maked content fasters without lossing art quality.

Well western art can draw in more human emotions/empathy because of its advantage of mimicking realism more (where as animu leans more to romantic idealism). Unfortunately the management in the west's entertainment industry is an absolute shit show; nothing but shady deals, being a findumb slave for the "workers" who do jack shit (publishers), unpaid internships then kick them out once the project is done, etc.

Now if good artists are actually rewarded for their efforts, we would be seeing much more good artwork in public that aren't so obscure they're practically inaccessible.
