Is anime the main art movement of our times?

It’s actually just cubism again. Art is regressing back through the movements

westernized anime is the final art movement you cannot correct perfection

Specificly big tiddy anime semi-realism grills are the art movement of our times. Sakimer is a genius

unless you're living inside a bubble, no not really. you're conflating pop culture and relative commercial appeal with an art movement.

Also anime is Japanese animation.

this isn't anime. this is a digital illustration. anime is Japanese animation. That's like calling a novel with some illustrated pages "Manga."

When historians review this era, the main artistic cultural artifacts will be movies, for a while, then perhaps video games. 2D art is pretty irrelevant right now.

I notice every time there's an "anime" thread on this board, same examples keep getting posted. No other subject matter other than hentai, and hardly anyone ever actually mentions actual anime or discuss the merits or quality of the animation and cinematography. Or composition or art direction of a given anime. It's just hentai drawn by western artists and Japanese artists. I can see how people hate anime when people's idea of what anime is is severely limited to what makes them ejaculate.
This is to shit on hentai artist or smut artists either, just a ongoing trend I see on this board.

>faces obviously tacked on a model, eyes don't match and hair rendering is shit compared to the rest because you can't simulate lightning as a crutch there
>left girl's left feet is stumpy next to flawless figures, result of incorrectly using a doll
obviously got all that from tracing over 3d models
not that there's anything wrong with that in theory but here it looks like shit

>art movement
These kinds of statements sound really dumb. Please read an academic art publication, or at least give yourselves a quick crash course on art history. Anime and manga actually have a very rich history (full of different interesting styles and movements!) if you really don't want to break out of your bubble.

The "movement of our times" in contemporary art is posthumanism, by the way. All of that uncanny hyperreal/surreal 3D CG stuff. It's kind of garbage imo

I love vaporwave deeply but I'm not sure it had the numbers or longevity to be considered a movement on the same level as the other examples in this thread.

>> No.4208938

>>4207290
yes

if you look at all the art movements across time they all have one thing in commune, a bunch of artists created art in the same time period, in the same general geographic region, in that style and it was hard to tell which one was made by which one unless it was made by a trend setter or you consume that art

all art movements had some leading artists, some time periods, some regions that were the hearth of the movement. Also, lots of art movements where not considered real art while they lived but after the fact

if an artist does not create copycats, and he is not a copycat of another artist then he is not part of an art movement, no matter how acclaimed he is

anime is just an art movement created and centralized in japan in the last century, and it will last as long the anime industry can sustain itself, or atleast as long as japan sustain it

>> No.4208941

>>4208162
vaporwave did not created something of its own, it just a collage or already existing art
