Not quite beg but far from Pro? please use this thread to post daily studies, pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Previous thread: >>4163862

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

READ THE STICKY if you refresh your fundies.

Help others with constructive criticism.

Don't post obviously beg tier stuff and get mad when no one gives a crit. Developing your eyes to critique your own work is far more valuable than someone else's critique.

The proportions look really off with regards to the head vs the shoulders. Your technique of applying colours is good, but the hair blends into the background far too much, making her head look askew and oddly shaped.

If you still have the reference, please post as it'll be easier to figure out exactly what's off.

My point is it's obnoxious and working artists rarely post how long they worked on a piece unless they're just doing it to show off or get kudos.

It's a weird thing in the online sketch culture where people are scared of being critiqued but at the same time as they get better they know they can brag to the less talented ones about how quickly they can sketch up a face.

In the real world no one cares how long it took you to do something. Sketches are sketches, don't people know that their primary purpose is to prepare an artist to do a painting whether in oils or photoshop. People online treat sketches as it's their bread and butter though.

It just looks too detailed for you to handle. Everything has a weird, flimsy texture and looks very inconsistent. In some places you attempt to go all in with realism, in other places you use abstractions, which leads to all kinds of problems. Example: The hair is literally drawn hair-by-hair. In the mouth region on the other hand, you use hatches for shading. The resulting effect is that I would assume she just has a very hairy mouth. There are other just weird looking places in the image, like the parting of the hair looks like somebody tried to cut off her scalp. Also the colors overall look wrong and lazy. Definitely work on the colors, especially the shadows. It's what ties the parts together, and right now it looks like it's patched together from different sources.

these sketches are more dynamic and loose, i feel it in the drawing on the far right especially. they have less character but its because they're just studies. the issue with the drawing i called stiff is that it was a complicated pose/perspective in general and any errors you make will be much more visible in a pose like that. its very very good that you attempted something like that, just keep in mind that it will not look very good at first, but do continue doing complicated stuff. doing things slightly above your current level is one of the best things a student can do to improve faster.

think about the folds as an element of the figure; now they look like random small elements scattered over him. they should change the outline of your form more drastically.

if you like this type of hatching, go crazier with it, dont make it so tiny. if you're good at something let people see it.

I did a rather hasty value study of my OC. I probably should've spent more time fleshing it out but I really just wanted to pinpoint my biggest flaws when it comes to working with values in order to address them. I wanted to try to work with very little value variety and it turned out fine I guess. Next time I would probably try to have a bit more contrast though, if someone has any good value study resources, especially something really indebt I'd appreciate it.

Do you want the long answer or the short one?

Short: I'm not your audience. I don't find dickgirls attractive
Long: I think appealing porn pictures start with characters' expressions and then their bodies. Bodies must be soft, inviting. Expressions need to be of pleasure. Your drawing just seems dead to me. Their faces say nothing, they're bored. Close their eyes, even partly -- maybe make them stare at each other's face, make it fucking intimate in a way. Where's the top girl's other hand? Why isn't she arching from pleasure? Where's the catgirl other hand? They're dolls, they have no weight or meaning to them; they just sit there

What I "see" that you just wanted to draw dick getting sucked, abs, and tits. I don't think it's bad, others WILL find it attractive/arousing. I just think there should be more to it then random body parts. If they're enjoying themselves they should register each other (and their own enjoyment) in a way, at the very least.

chapter five from steve hustons book and chapter about values from how to render (not the autistic cast shadow construction parts, just the elements of light and shadow). do studies of sphere, cube and cone in black and white first, create your own diagram of light/shade pattern on these so you can refer to them easily. then try to
implement your new knowledge to human figure, huston will help you. always stick to the light source direction and start thinking in core shadow/reflected light instead of shadow/light, it will change your art immediately

I don't think "int" as a level really exists. You're either good enough for people to go "hey that guy can draw" or you're not. It's pretty binary. And once you've passed that threshold you don't need to post all your studies on /ic/ and have people give you advice, because you'll just already be doing the original work you want to do.
People want multiple levels because they want to be able to announce that they're making progress, but the painful truth is that being a /beg/ last years, and there's not really much between "beg" and "gud".

>> No.4202016

>>4202015
the only painful thing here is your anus. i have multiple people irl tell me they love my art but thats just because they're non artists and i know i still have a lot of progress to do. just leave this thread alone already

>> No.4202025

>>4202015
This is really not true, the difference is painfully obvious. Beg art is riddled with obvious flaws that seriously take away from the quality of the work and makemit difficult to even take seriously, but it's okay because it's just practice. Int is basically the level where your work isn't dramatically flawed, you have established some basic level of personal stype, but your work is simply not finessed enough to sell or really create high quality pieces of art.

That being said I don't advocate for shitting on beginners from posting here, they're shooting themselves in the foot because they are much more likely to get feedback on their work in /beg/ since their work doesn't stand out like a sore thumb as terrible.

And the benefit of /Int / is that higher level posters can share their art and advice without being overlooked by beginners.

How do I learn the techniques that people from art schools use? I'm in eastern europe so the meme about Russian art schools is true here. They do everything mechanically, from memory, render everything in a very similar way, and very quickly sometimes at expense of looking at the subject.

Don't be afraid to push your values, especially in the horns. I can see you start out that way (legs, arm0 but when you break get further in with shading, I think you lose the contrast. I would push the colors too and cool down the shadows.

I'm not sure what kind of clothes she's wearing. Is it a one shoulder dress, or one of the straps just fell down her arm? If it's the latter, add more volume to the folds. Figuring out the clothing style will really help when defining the shadows. All those folds you rendered aren't helping much either. I would tone them down, at first at least.

Overall it's not bad. I'm not a huge fan of the face but if that's your style, then keep going with it. Figure out how to make it more appealing. You have all those flowing curves in the legs, but it looks like you're tensing up in the arms and body a bit. Could be just focusing too much on getting the details right. I would try keeping it loose.
