I like the idea of like a demon bot girl character but there are tons of issues with this. Her knee to our right was pointing in the wrong direction. Other stuff and I'm just pointing out the first ones that come to mind:

- I think her anatomy is pretty unappealing atm. Super long arms, stumpy legs, etc. Kinda looks like a gorilla but maybe that's what you're going for?

- I have no idea where your light is supposed to be coming from. If you feel insecure about doing lighting, maybe just go with 1 single light source and a rim/bounced light in addition to that (do this at the very end to add emphasis).

- I have absolutely no idea what her pose is supposed to convey. She kinda looks like a DJ who's about to start scratching some records. I suck at poses myself so I'll take photos of my girlfriend, use 3D-software or look for reference online. I think you could benefit from doing the same.

Also maybe try having different rhytms beetwen the inside and outside outline for the arm, with the inside straighter the outside, to emphasize the bowing of the arm under the weight of the torso, instead of the mirrored look that you have now, which lacks energy.

You have an issue with proportions, focus on that next time instead of making it look good by filling it in everywhere. A few darkest darks in the cast shadows and sparingly used white will be much more effective than what you did here, but the main issue really is proportions, for example her head is too small and her torso is much too elongated. Good luck.

A Maximum Carnage movie would be so cool. The closest we'll probably get is seeing Carnage in Venom 2 next year, but my expectations are kind of low since it'll be PG13 (and the first Venom was pretty meh-tier).

I also loved the Raimi Spider-Man movies when they came out (even the 3rd one, mostly because Venom was in it). I remember being an imaginative young teen and hoping Spider-Man 4 would have Carnage and/or Shriek in it.

I started working on this thing again since literally 4 MONTHS ago when i last posted it. Been dealing with a faulty computer/been too busy to do my own paintings. This piece has taken so long and has been a total waste of time.

But anyway it's almost done now. Just gotta tidy things up and do the carpet.

Holy shitzors. That's fucking amazing. Just the right amount of stylization to the face without it looking like a thirsty anime piece. It's like Brad Rigney but with better taste. Do you have a blog and do you have any process images of this saved? Would love to see how you approach a piece like this.

As for feedback: I think you could lose just a little bit more detail (like 5%) on the BG and also the carpet closest to the camera (which you were probably going to do anyway).

GJ anon!

Looking good anon! I don't feel like they're blurring together too much. You could always make lines that are in front of other lines (intersecting) a little bit thicker. Also you could have the toads have slightly different hues in the final piece.

I guess it's hard for me because I try to improve as I do things and be pushed to my limits, so in this instance I have to make good edges, render it well, learn how to draw hair and constantly tinker with values so I can achieve a better looking portrait. I spent over 7 hours on it already and having all those things that I mentioned in mind can burn you out pretty quickly. But still it's fun trying and I can always carry what I learn here to my next piece ( I can already tell I learned at least something)

1. i like the eye on our right. i feel the form, the colors and values are nice. the eye on our left though looks flat.

2. i like the overall painterly/watercolor like rendering. thats why i dont dig the way you rendered the hair, it looks out of place because its way more smooth and "shiny" compared to the rest. cover the hair up with your hand and youll see what im talking about, it looks like a completely different and more cohesive piece without the hair.

3. i like the sharp edge versus dark cast shadow on the hoodie, right under the neck. i would even put some more highliht (but a flat kind of highlight) on the hood.

4. i think the background isnt doing anything good here, it has a negative effect on your piece if anything.

5. i dont think the back of the hair should be so dark, some light could help here.

sorry for the fix, i just think youre cute and i wanted to fix just the background but your face kept me for a bit longer

I honestly prefer the left eye. But it's mostly because of the areas around the eye, which was mostly an happy accident and made me change the rest of the image (with the more prevailing shapes)

The hair is shit tho. I completely agree. But I swear I spent 1/3 of the entire painting on it and eventually just got angry and said fuck it. Which is something you really shouldn't do.

But thank you a lot for the critique! I will consider all of it and try to figure out better solutions for my next piece!

And you're also cute! Wanna fuck?

>> No.4193146

but you dont know if im cute! stop lying.

i know what you mean with the hair, i always go crazy on one single part of the drawing and it always ends up looking out of place and weird but i dont know how to fix it. its true what painting profs always tell me, dont overdo anything you're not sure about because it will only bring out the mistakes and lack of confidence more.

Man you're very welcome, don't let people decide if you should continue a drawing. It doesn't have to be 'worthy'. Just follow your heart a little or you're missing the point of drawing anything.

>>4193065
Hey good job picking an interesting expression rather than a boring plain look. I know I would've just made a plain expression. So the rendering's pretty good and you're clearly paying attention to skin's translucent behavior. I think it turned out kind of pallid this time, but I think you're on the right track trying to tackle this. Your ability to plot what you're looking at is good, as the construction reads well and so does the expression. You're good at that.

I think you should work on your ability to manage all the values in the picture. I think you spend so much time rendering one part, the overall value it should have gets away from you. Meaning your picture doesn't have as much 3D depth as it should. Gotta practice keeping a balanced relationship between shadows, lit areas, and ambiently lit shadows.

Lips are rendered just beautifully though. Great job.

>>4192316
Good job! I'm at a similar stage as you -- I think you should work on your skill with brushwork. Don't get me wrong, your rendering and values are very good, but you're exhausting your time and energy with inefficient use of brush size and brush type. I think at your skill level you could pull off something like this with a lot less headache with simpler brushwork. Simpler is harder to learn, but it'll pay off a lot.

Let me be clear, your edge control is great. The rendering, and values, great. The result is there. But you're working too hard for it. I notice you used a small square brush to painstakingly render her entire bare cheek.

If you challenge yourself to do this with fewer, more decisive, albeit "less perfect" brush strokes, you're going to also test your confidence in blocking in values. Good job, you get a Like and Thumbs Up and Share from me.

Spent the better parts of today and yesterday doing this shit over and over trying to figure out a way of rendering with color that makes sense to me. Still don't know if the brush I use should be textured, or if it should be opaque or not, or if it's best to keep it as a circle or use some other kind of brush tip.

My colors are almost always muddy which I blame on my lack of understanding of when they should be saturated (and I typically just pick shit colors cause I don't know how), also the fact that my monitors have completely different settings so it looks fine on one and washed out on the other. Not sure if it's standard to block in base colors first before rendering, which might also be fucking me over.

Disheartening since I could just apply a quick cel shading layer and stick it on multiply which so far would look better than anything I'm capable of producing. Don't know how people make their shit look so good and complex while also doing it so quickly, but at the moment every artist I look up to is out of my league. Should probably be using more soft brushes now that I think about it, don't know why I'm so turned off by them. It's probably cause you'd usually pair it with the lasso tool which I hate using cause you have to be so precise with it, and also it's soulless

I just want someone to give me a direction to go into or point me to something I can study

Decent work but I’d like to suggest to lower detail in one of the eyes, probably the one further away. It goes both ways, but there are some women out there who are staunch narcissists. They fling themselves onto successful men in the hopes that they attract them, and if they're able to nab one, they'll do everything in their power to make the man mimic their poor habits. They don't necessarily care if the man gains weight or whatever - he'll still have his money. Him not being desirable to anyone outside their relationship is just an added bonus. Why work hard to make yourself equally desirable and independent when you can trap your means of success in a spiral of mediocrity that he can't easily escape without reinvesting the time to achieve those goals again.
