Not really. That's like saying the most technically difficult part of making an Albert Bierstadt painting would be "mastery of perspective". There are hundreds of other artists during his time that had the same mastery of anatomy and drapery, during his time those would need to be mastered to even be taken seriously. What sets Bougz apart was his near perfect mastery of the subtleties of understanding and manipulating color, light, composition, brush strokes, oil technique in general. All of that was on another level even compared to other 19th century academic masters.

I was saying that his knowledge of the human body and drapery led to his remarkable ability to paint people the way he did. That's why his skin tones look so good. I don't think he would have been able to do that, regardless of his paint manipulating abilities, had he not known how light works with human skin.

His intimate awareness of the nuance of his subjects beforehand, allowed him to be able to paint it as such.

That's what helps makes a Bouguereau distinct.
I think there have been other artists that could have painted like him, but didn't because that's not what their goals were in the painting.
As far as technical skills go, I could reach Bougz's skill level and have a painting that looks nothing like his. But still have an equal technical mastery.

Anyway, what you said was right. But achieving his "look" is not my goal, his obvious understanding of his subjects and the way they'll look when the painting is finished is my goal.
