IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, or you literally are never going to make it

TRY TO GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless

how do I proportion in a quick sketch, when there's no time to measure it? i can sorta feel it out when there's some reference point (like, 'ear in line with the knee', shit like that) but when not I just have to guess, and i suck at that. Just a lot of practice, I suppose?

Which version do you prefer? Left or right?

I rather like the effect achieved by nothing but blacks and whites but everyone I asked, and every comic I've read, always has grays (and those that don't, the noir stuff, is really niche), so I don't know.

Also, general feedback is welcome, as always.

you need more fundamentals and construction. don't draw just heads and start from the collarbone up AT LEAST to give yourself an anchoring point, it can help immensely in getting the perspective.

the ears and cheek fur have little depth or dimension and I can see a couple styles you're trying to emulate but the core of your building blocks is off.

perhaps bring down the scaling of the forehead on the far side.

your big problem is just lack of experience in building the basic object. the eyes while a little skewed are nice, but it confuses confuses the perspective a bit and just a bit too far apart.

I think your problem is that you are not only trying to draw very complex poses, but also poses you can't imagine doing yourself. Not only the pose is anatomically problematic but it also doesn't make sense from a practical stand point.

Arm/Upper body movement is used to counteract rotating momentum given to the body by the legs (or to enhance the strike, or both). So if you have a character doing a side kick from right to left the arms should be twisting to the right - so the right one will extent to the side and left one will get in front of the abdomen.

Instead the character is raising one arm up and the other is doing devil knows what.

Ya know, there is nothing wrong with some intermittent test-tracing to whack your perception back in line, when you're not sure whether or not you're getting proportional distortion. Lining up all the stuff in the head is actually really difficult since there's super subtle perspectives at play, putting things in places you're not intellectually inclined to anticipate.

Your brain will actually appreciate it when you do a test trace to see where you're going wrong. It also trains your muscle memory for all the kinds of curves and angles that exist in reality that your hand doesn't want to make by itself.

Could be worth reading through Anatomy of Facial Expressions, it's on LibGen. Shows all the muscles and fats of the face, the planes of the head, how contractions effect facial expression.

Take visual notes on almost everything there while focusing on the forms of the face, not appeal. Then study real faces with the anatomical knowledge.

>> No.4106044

You should think that composition through. TFor example, the woman right now is in the middle of the door frame, and you can't understand the action clearly. You can try making her either leaving the frame or entering it.

Who the shot is about? What am I supposed to feel at the moment? What's the story? How come the dude is way more important than the woman? Is he the main character? If not, why is he taking all the space in the shot and we feel closer to him atm than to the woman? Why did you chose this lens for this shot? There's not a lot of depth between the figures, so the drama is lost, and we feel that those two are close somehow on an emotional level.

You have to ask yourself these questions. Get yourself some books on comic books, composition, and cinematography.

Is it possible to learn to draw using only a tablet?
I'm thinking about buying one because I am ashamed when someone sees my drawings and this way I would be able to draw anything without people seeing it. It's not that I draw some weird stuff, it's because I'm starting and it all looks like shit.
Anyone done it this way?

You can get blank A5 books to carry around with you in a bag and scribble in, they are pretty cheap as well compared to a drawing tablet which starts at around $100 dollars (taking my own wacom as an example).
https://www.amazon.com/5-5x8-25-Hardcover-Notebook-Acid-Free-Drawing/dp/B07SQXCN37/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=empty+book&qid=1567969480&s=gateway&sr=8-5
Of course you can also try and find a ring binded pad with clear pages but a book type keeps the pages neater due to the hard cover.
I'd say just practice any way you feel comfortable, I only draw at home so I don't really care what I draw on or who looks at it since it's just practice.
