Excellent rendering, but lacks emotion and narrative. He highlights the girl, but the piece seems to be more about the warrior since the glowing sword is so prevalent.

IMO his face should be a focal point, but it just blends in with the rest of his figure, losing an intense stare that he should be giving the viewer and that we should be drawn into.

Also, he seems to be protecting the girl from something/someone, but there is no sense of emotional drama in the piece. The girl could have a look of worry or fear, maybe even burying the side of her face into the warrior for protection. But instead she just stares at the viewer like a porcelain doll.

This, He spent at least 500 hours on one of his portraits. The guy outright said in a stream I sat in that he's not very good, he just spends time correcting his stuff. He's one of those artists that can paint but not draw with lines too cleanly. It still takes a trained eye and discipline to correct yourself like that, I know for a fact he's done hundreds of still lives and that's a good thing. But learn to fucking draw, guys.

The reason drawing is a prerequisite to painting is because the shape design and structure sensibilities translate. Watch some Jeff Watts videos or something. It has nothing to do with how clean of lines you can draw, that's not a metric for drawing ability.
