That's not what I'd call a finished piece. It's what I'd call a study in a spiral sketchbook. You said you'd paint on canvas, so a finished piece would be a framed canvas. If you want to make money off traditional art, either paint cheesy stuff that people buy, like portraits from photos, or exhibit your work. This is a creat piece, however amateurish the art might still be. It's definitely hard to find random commissions like this, but writers (and writer wannabes) are always looking for people to give their books and fanfics a face. You'll probably have to read some of it or ask for some detailed descriptions, your way to deal with it might vary. For a commissioner, this is a great way to pay less (it's a single piece) for more (several snippets show up), although you can't be too exigent in this case in terms of narrative, it's more like a general piece that transmits the mood.

Ultimately, you can go for doing short commission pages, like doing 2 pages illustrating an action passage of the person's story, or even create something from zero, as in the dude gives you a furry shark tranny and you make 2 random pages of it surfing in a competition against its girlfriend octopus.

In the end, you gotta sell your product. If you make a couple pieces like this and people like it, they might want to commission you for this particular format, even if they didn't have it in mind at first when they went out to shop for art.

I wanted to make a long Hiimdaisy style comic about various Lovecraft stories, figured that sort of thing would need lots of shadows even if comedy, and cannot draw for shit. If the appeal of your work is that it's cheap, instead of that it's desirable, you're NGMI because you're in a bidding war with yourself and the lowest common denominator.

Most people aren't going to buy something that was made for someone else. I don't think a portrait of me would get high bids from anyone else but that doesn't devalue it.

jmm your shit need more definition men. study more anatomy to level the hands, heads and feets, and also practice more the shadows, you use hard strokes to shawing.. no problem at all wtih that but remember that those depend a lot of good placement to blow up, yours looks more like... you just shadow the contours of everything and then add another layer more, there is no clear direction. Work on that and you will see how improve your works.
For money i don't know, iI would not pay for commissions like that, probably $20 for more than one character, just for the time.
