Cater to a niche that isnt being actively catered to, or cater to it in a new way.
Have a style that is unique but not insanely so that it is off putting.
Create likeable characters.
Engage with fans.

Literally every single thing any person in any medium does to get popular. If you dont succeed it is because you are not unique enough or marketing yourself incorrectly to the audience you wish to pursue.
