Not 'everyone' was doing this. What's popular on /ic/ is by no means a reflection of the greater world of art & illustration.

- Judging by the angle of the soles of the main character, the vanishing point of the floor is much lower than the girl is positioned at.
- The main character holds his right arm outstretched to the back, meaning the sword would be at least 60 cm behind him.
How would his left hand even be able to get near the handle?
- Judging by the angle of the main character's head, he's looking straight at horse dong, instead of it's head. Awkward...
- If the horse creature is a blend of human and horse elements, then the human wrist would be basically equivalent to the fetlock joint of the horse,
so it would look much better to add the long and short pastern bones. It would avoid that 'hands cut off at the wrist look'.
- What happened to the horse creature's left leg?
-if the girl is behind the horse creature, why is she lighter and has less contrast? It can't be the dust, as she is painted as crisp as the other characters.

And all these negative points make it, imo, a 8,75/10 painting.

>if the girl is behind the horse creature, why is she lighter and has less contrast?
because that is literally how value and distance/planes work? the further away an object is from the camera, the narrower the value scale becomes and the less contrast it features.

Just compare her with the leg of the horse, it's a very similar narrow value range and you can consider it mid-background. Now move up to the torso and head which obv features a much wider value range and more contrast, you can consider it middleground. The foreground could need a bit more details and material work, it would really make it a step up.

Have you literally never heard of atmospheric perspective?

>Judging by the angle of the soles of the main character, the vanishing point of the floor is much lower than the girl is positioned at.
His toes would have to be barely above his heels for that to be remotely true.
>Judging by the angle of the main character's head, he's looking straight at horse dong, instead of it's head. Awkward...
He could be giving the horse an angry sneer from below. He could also be looking at the girl, there's literally no way to tell and no reason to assume anything.
>If the horse creature is a blend of human and horse elements, then the human wrist would be basically equivalent to the fetlock joint of the horse, so it would look much better to add the long and short pastern bones.
They are literally there, look closer.
>What happened to the horse creature's left leg?
Look at the hero's left side, that thick, grey dust is at the same height as where the leg disappears. It would be weird if the leg kicking all that shit up WAS visible.
>if the girl is behind the horse creature, why is she lighter and has less contrast?
Because that's literally how it works.

Overall, one decent point, 2/10.
