Behind the goblin I guess. Painting feet were Frazetta's weak spot but instead of taking the time to learn to paint them right he found ways to hide them for 75% of the figures in his paintings like a bitch.

Look through his paintings and you will be shocked at how often he does this. Feet that dissolve into the ground, feet that are obscured by undergrowth, submerged in swamps or snow, or are just conveniently blocked by the foreground itself. I assume he did this mostly because he found them difficult to paint in a way that looked like they are on the ground naturally.

he obviously had a solid foundation, but the cool details doesnt come too much from a visual library like knowledge of anatomy and such. it is more about visualizing when you draw it. sort of hallucinating it. his oily tubelike designs are definitely like that. but then, you need to draw a lot to get good hallucinations :-d

There was a thread a day ago or so that I believe has been removed, it was some semi realistic/cartoony pony porn shit. It was a pony character riding a dildo and cumming on his own face while being lit from a window. i don't believe mielgo at all, he says a lot of bs. it looks like 3d cg composited with real footage, with painted over animation here and there. most of the dude's work is painting from photographs it makes sense that it carries over to the short. it's definitely rotoscoped, edited mocap, or heavily heavily heavily references real actors. the backgrounds are real footage with cg. they say "100% keyframe/handmade" for muh love of animation but it's plainly not.

Jones was awesome. He had such a great sense for the subtleties of composition, atmospheric light and shadow, color and form that he could do so much without over-rendering. The similarly to Frazetta can't be understated, but there is much NC Wyeth and even Andrew Wyeth I see in her art too which sets her apart.

Fucking incredible artist. One of my favorite symbolist painters. His art was so weird and unusual I would have loved to know what he was thinking when painting.

Wlastimil Hofman was another Polish symbolist whose similar, though not nearly as talented as Malczewski. I love the symbolists whose work was infected by the fascination with religious mysticism or occultism that was going on towards the end of the 1800s.

yea pretty sure it's done from life, but still, i always wish i could draw like that but without refrences (or only using refrences for problem zones), but it's just not really possible for me, except sometimes, certain poses

i hate this, because i feel like i just can't find a style when i always try to draw better than i actually can

Just practice man. Learn from many different artists and your own style will come about with experience.

Also look up the painting processes of the 19th century masters. Late in the 1800s they had access to photography so you can assume that most of the "finished" paintings with highly polished rendering included use of model studies as well as photographic reference.

The symbolists probably did more drawing and painting from imagination from start to finish and you can usually tell which ones used little to no reference or models. This painting by Carlos Schwabe probably couldn't have been done without a lot of life studies even though its purely an imaginative scene.
