**If you make good copies of anime *properly*, you will be able to draw good anime. If you make bad copies of anime or bad anime styled drawings from photos, you will get better at drawing bad anime. Please think carefully about how you are studying.**

This is the thread for:

1. Posting your anime studies:
>Copy exactly but don’t do it aimlessly. Integrate drawing concepts (construction, color theory, tracing, etc.) into your studies in order to pull information from the reference (anime art, figurines, tutorials) that you can later use for your original work.
>Do a single study multiple times to ensure you address all of your mistakes and memorize the correct process in your head. Attempt drawing it from memory as well.
>You will only be able to effectively deviate from your reference after doing exact copy studies accurately and consistently.
2. General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

I'm trying to git gud at drawing heads at any angle. When i do my first stuff, i've tried to draw human heads and stylized it but everything looked off, but now i think im starting to get it.
Insightful observations of good artists work get me idea how to change proportions and perspective of face. I kinda invent it by myself with loomis guidelines.
Anime heads are not equal to real one. I've seen many bad tutorials about that, so what would be great for me is some kind of golden rules that can be used as a base. Just like loomis for realistic heads.
Any book/video curses recomendations about manga heads and faces?

Is it just me, or is it extremely hard to draw perfectly symmetrical faces from the front? Just drawing a vertical line straight down is sometimes hard for me, when there's a very slight tilt flipping the canvas somehow tricks my eyes into seeing it as slightly tilted in either direction.

Looking at some random drawings, it seems like people try to avoid drawing perfectly symmetrical faces from a frontal view, maybe because it's not as interesting as other perspectives or even just interesting a slight bit of angle?

it seems blindingly obvious to me that you should try to draw what you want and then work on your fundamentals when you find you don't have the ability to do something. can't draw a figure in 3D? study construction methods. can't even draw simple forms in 3D? study perspective. people rarely seem to take this approach though. i feel like there's a large amount of people on /ic/ who are afraid that if they make one mistake at any point during their drawing career it'll fuck them for life. i'm surprised you don't see more suicides coming out of this board.

Your chink cartoons are derived from life, get your concepts from life and mimic it - not the other way around. By mimicking life you would not only learn how to deviate away from life with stylization you'll also develop an approach to drawing from imagination and describe form independent from any reference or copy.

Simply copying off an already stylized version of life may only get you the answers but it's not just the answers we should be concerned about it's how we got to the answers towards the problem of giving the illusion of form and space in a very abstract form such as your moeshit.

>> No.3895218

>>3895214
The proportions are not in relationship to each other. For instance the torso is too long, head too small, and you've got issues with anatomy such as the clavicle, the ulna and radius are completely dislodged from the humerus, her obliques are almost non existent, her pelvis is comical and flared out too much even for your moeshit, and her femur bones are going completely straight down instead of being slightly offset at an angle.

The entire figure is incredibly stiff, uncomfortable, her upper torso is implying a 3/4 view yet we have her pelvis and lower limbs facing the viewer which makes it even more uncomfortable and uncanny to look at.

You have more issues to be worrying about than just skin coloring.

Ok, this is really not my style but here's what i think
As well as what has already been mentioned, assuming you mean the anime's style, no the manga, the style looks very "cuteish", in a sense that is very heavily simplified, the shape of the heads looks very roundish, so i'd start with that (in your case it looks more like an egg). Keep in mind that the lower the cheek, the cuter it'll look (look at kanna).
Lowering the cheek will also make the chin less pronounced, which will give the head an even smoother shape (look at chibi draws to see what i mean)
Also with a style like this the nose is only gonna look good if it's barely noticeable (like a dot?), you can even not draw it at all.
I would also keep the shading rather simple, especially on the face... at most i would apint a small shadow on the side of the nose... if any.
As for the neck being so thin... i can't make it look good, so i don't know what to say about that.
Overall if you are going to that style i'd say keep the shapes rounder and very simple

Also
> I wasn’t trying to emulate any specific style or type of anime.
I don't think this is a problem at all... if you like the general asthetic you could just grab some stuff from different styles and make something on your own

really appreciate you pointing this out. thats how i approach realistic faces. like the eyes are halfway down the head, bottom of the nose is halfway between that, mouth is halfway between chin and nose. i know those aren't exact but i can block it out without a reference. the proportions on this are cryptic. i see your lines. but i dont see how to reverse engineer it.

nose is at the bottom of the circle.

ok enough complaining. thank again. ill just try again. maybe ill figure it out.

not them, it's just loomis. loomis is the underlying structure, then modify the proportions until you get what you want with anything just like in real life. hairline to brow to nose bottom to chin is 1/3s

Just draw more, anon. You're on too low of a level to even give practical advice to. Try copying some art you like, but not mindlessly. Here's my attempt at a redline.
Good head! I dig the eyes and the overall shape. Good nose placement too.
The head is a very tricky and meticulous thing though, we a lot of things to place and keep proportionate. It's easy to forget one little detail. Even I redlined my own redline kek.

Keep practicing it at different angles though, taking note of the placement and shape of the details and how they change based on the angle. You'll get it down perfect in no time.
