Same anon here, I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten about 2000 followers just from doing original art. I tend to get more followers from original art that blows up than fanart that blows up too, so I don’t care if I lose followers or anything, I just feel bad about disappointing people who follow me for fanart and stuff.

I usually draw ocs and then a few fanarts for whatever thing I watched/got interested in recently. I got about 300 followers for a couple oc concepts I had but I guess I somehow hit the oc design jackpot with this other girl I have. I have multiple posts with her that get thousands of likes and typically get comments like "she's so cute" and "I love this design". My posts with her that did get popular mostly showed her personality in some way.

Just as a tip, there are some trends I noticed among popular oc posts I've seen from others. It's usually either

>oc has a unique/unconventional concept but still looks appealing in some way
>has some kind of pastel aesthetic
It doesn't have to be unique though, I see like 47930282 pale pink haired girl ocs that get popular so I guess it's all about whatever's appealing and/or eye-catching. It's not something you have to think too hard about. For my oc I just combined things I like.

I post nearly everything I draw so the best I can show is this >>3829011. I'm actually still at the point where I have a lot to improve on so my art gets pretty inconsistent because I keep experimenting with different shit. My interests are pretty varied but I get the most traction when I'm drawing girls(human and nonhuman) and portray them with some kind of distinct personality and/or quirk. I tend to apply unconventional traits to them too since I get bored easily with drawing typical anime girls.
