It's pretty much perfect for what it is. My only complaint would be that the hen's hair looks kind of like it's the chick's feet (as if it were walking along its head).

So I'm /beg/ as fuck and currently grinding through Loomis and other tutorials for more 'semi/realistic/lifelike' styles but I would really like is to get to a point where I can draw in an animesque style like pic related.

Am I wasting time with Loomis' head/body anatomy? If so could any one suggest a better alternative for reaching my goal?

Dude just study artists that already achieve the style you like, like pic related. In my opinion fundamentals are important but when beginners start with them they have no aim as to how to use them- they just end up without a style constantly grinding light studies, anatomy studies, gesture drawing, and so on. So copy the picture that inspires you, but take the time to research the most important fundamentals behind it (if it’s a lil anime girl- anatomy, lighting, if it’s a landscape- perspective, lighting) A lot of /ic/ ends up with burn out because they try to study EVERYTHING there is in art as soon as they start drawing and are trying to cram information into their brain in the span of a few days so they just end up confused. Take one step at a time, it’s ok to be bad when you first start drawing, you will learn naturally with experience.

It depends. You might find that and others like it a little frustrating because of the small size. If you can afford it, I'd suggest an Intuos Pro no smaller than 9x12. Huion has similar tablets for cheaper, but in my experience they die after a year or so.

what's a good photo viewer besides windows photo viewer and picasa photo viewer?
windows photo viewer was buggy for me and it made images pixelated when you zoom in, but at least you could have multiple photos open at once.
picasa photo viewer lets you zoom in smoothly but only allows one photo to be viewed at a time.

I've only seen this insane look be okay in characters like Jigglypuff, where the irises simply are gigantic. Speaking of which, since your character looks so much like Jigglypuff or Kirby, you could use them as reference to see where they succeed and yours don't.

I used a mouse so this a a bit sloppy, but should give you an idea, and if you desire, you can easily push the effect even more than I did.
