I have
>Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters
>Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist by Peck
>Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy
>The Drawings of Heinrich Kley
>The Art Spirit by Robert Henri

Thinking of getting:
>Bridgman Human Machine (or should I get the Guide to Life Drawing book)
>Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists by Ellenberger et al.
>Structura: Art of Sparth

I definitely want to buy some "art of" books, mostly concept art for inspiration, feel free to recommend something.

But retarded /beg/s and beggars think he knows his shit and they "can't learn from books, I need videos". It's so frustrating to tell people the path to get better but they ignore it.

He's embarrassing and I can't believe he still has those up and hasn't redone them. His shit is a ripoff of much better shit you can get for free from How to Draw/Render, Hampton, Scott Eaton, and Krenz. People really need to call him on his shit here. Good on you for giving back. I have too just because of how much it's helped me.

Unfortunately gumroad is like that. It's almost a "passive income" (I don't like that phrase because there's still marketing, time, and effort put into it; nothing is really passive income) that artists record in an hour or two and can sell for the next few years. So much of it is half-assed recordings with a shitty headset mic and no production value. I see them as buying process videos of professionals when it comes to 2D art. I think they're a lot more useful for learning some 3D stuff like sculpting or hard surface specifics. The only course I ever felt was worth the money that I've paid on gumroad were the dirt cheap Rapoza Orc and Bog Witch vids, and Zacharias Reinhardt's Mastering Sculpting for Blender tutorial also a very fair price. I highly distrust any gumroad, skillshare, whatever course because there is no quality control. Even most NMA/CGMA/Watts stuff is barely any discernible level over things you can find legally for free but you don't learn that until you've seen enough. People are begging for Aldoori courses now because he's obviously the next visible gumroad to beg for after mdj.

Sparth has a good free video on gumroad but it was enough to make me not buy any of his videos. I've seen a wootha video and it explained almost everything in that one video so I can imagine buying any others would be repeating the same process on a different piece (painting over 3d renders and cleaning it up). I learned a lot from both of those but would not recommend paying for the second. Most of the premium resources I've watched I felt disappointed just by the size they took up and little they gave back.

How to draw books suck (even the japanese ones), the authors just don't draw as well as half the published mangakas. There are chinese how to draw mango books like this one that I own the last time I walked into a huuugeeee bookshop in shanghai (and no I can't read a word of it) but there's scans of this on baidu. Somewhere. Apparently.

>> No.3775839

are there any good how to draw comics/manga (i dont really care which one) that talk about panelling composition/techniques rather than "how to emulate X style"? Everytime I see a "how to draw comics/manga" is just teaches you how to replicate the capestuff/anime style of drawing without covering all the other important stuff about making a comic (composition, panelling, portraying motion, etc).

Not just books in particular, and I know the image you're talking about, although I didn't save it because there are no justifications for either the books or the order, which I found odd.

Here's what I would recommend:
Learn to copy what's in front of you first, if you can't copy the information before you, good luck drawing something out of your imagination.

Books for this are Betty Edward's Drawing on the right side of the brain, or Keys to Drawing -- I personally recommend Bargue. Video resources are the DaVinci Initiative's YouTube channel, or the Vitruvian studios lecture series on portrait drawing.

Once you're beginning to feel comfortable with drawing what you see, you ought to move on to more advanced perspective than what's covered in those books, Scott Robertson's book is usually the go to, couple these with Loomis, Bridgeman, and anything by Rey Bustos. Other resources are Michael Hampton's books/videos, I'm personally not a fan of his work, although you should decide yourself -- my main gripe is the lack of proportions, which he has some intuition for, but definitely not enough to fully realize his artistic potential -- but then he's better than I am, and he was really the first to teach me about perspective and drawing as a process.

Overall try to use common sense, draw the work of artists you enjoy, try to train yourself to look for the distinguishing elements of their work. I have too much advice to give, but my main axiom is to try to understand WHY something works, attribute meaning to every stroke you see and draw yourself, because no matter how random they look, masterful artists, no matter their style, are thinking through each line thoroughly before they put it on paper, it just becomes intuitive after a while.

Um.. learn gesture? Individual panel compositions are just still frames of any scene the artist-author has visualized in their head; the process has been described as "informal screenwriting" for a reason. DC Comics Guides ostensibly cover writing, penciling, inking, coloring and lettering; but if you don't understand visual storytelling to begin with then you're just digging yourself into a hole. Look up comic scriptwriting resources like Panel One or better yet, study and copy the storyboards of your favorite anime and superhero flicks. Stop worrying about the technical details and just draw.

You're misunderstanding their point. Regardless of the quality of the content, no one is going to trade for stuff that is not only already online, but easy as fuck to find on e-hentai.

I think trading piracy is fucking retarded by default but it doesn't take a genius to see why no one is going to scan a rare book for a copy of Fun With a Pencil when you can find that by typing "Loomis pdf" into your browser.

I think none of those artbook will help you... Better back to fundamental book like How to draw, Framed ink, perspective and figure drawing book. If you want to make your manga, just make it and post. Your art may suck like Mob psycho but it will improve if you keep drawing.

If i posted this particular artbooks if for one reason in particular. However, if you search the same artbooks in other site please, share it.

thanks anon for the advice, i'm scared a bit to just start making it when i make something that i feel is bad my instinct is to just throw it away and start over. i hope i can just start the manga and actaully make something good that people will like instead of a manga with bad art that nobody cares about on the internet

>> No.3789857

>>3789801
You can't expect to make good manga right from the start. Draft a good story with bad art first and improve as you develop more. If you are not confident to put it online, seek opinion from your friend and family. Find people with same interest you can learn from.
If you want to copy drawing from artbook, it's fine. But without fundamental, it's really not helping you improve and develop your own style.

I don't know if I have a good story idea in me it feels like every good idea has already been done before. I wish I could come up with something as clever as mob psycho or pokemon, you know the kind of idea that blows up big. why is it so hard to come up with a good idea.

and pic related is the same except except for a small 5 page introduction. But the book is twice as thicc (144 pages vs the half of the other? it's not counted), and from what I've seen so far is also more complete having some of the pics from the first book too. Might not be all, just today I got them so still need the time to go thru them.
