It can be solved by literally just locking the sketch layer. Does one extra step require this much brainpower from you?

>> No.3780377

>>3780224
It never happens to me because I sketch dark, then I turn down the opacity when I want to line them (which is what most people do anyways). So if I ever accidentally drew on the sketch layer I will instantly notice it because the line's color will be too light.

The more common problem is drawing on the wrong layer when you split up your drawings into face layer, hair layer, etc. But I rarely do that anyways.

If I could start over I would just DRAW, instead of what I did which was listen to a bunch of people in school and internet forums back in the day, telling me what, and how, I should and shouldn't be drawing. Rather than getting better, I just became confused, and slowed down, cause I had a ton of people all telling me different things about what I could and couldn't do.

Usually it was people who didn't know what they were talking about too, cause years later they still draw the same way, or same subjects over and over, but I was dumb and thought they had the answers. I feel if I didn't involve myself with that shit and just drew I would have been better off.

It's not a real problem.

With black ink on top is easy: you can either select the black, invert selection, cut and paste on another layer, or directly use threshold to get rid of the grays.

If you have a darker sketch on top of a lighter one use levels to cut out the lighter values.

If the lighter sketch has transparent pixels merge it to a full white layer first and then do as above.

I would read these books in no particular order, though I recommend starting with How to Draw. I'll attach my art, all done on one layer in photoshop with 100% flow and opacity.

1) How to draw by Scott
2)Simplyfying perspective by Robert Pastrana
3)how to render by Scott
4) realistic light and color by Gurney
5)Loomis proportion/figure book

Pretty much 100 percent of the technical skill is right here, read these books and practice them well over a period of days. Try to learn to see volume and value, this can be done with practice.

There was a video series by a man names "Waveloop" on youtube called unusual art tip with easily some of the best art tips to ever be on the internet. Most of the videos are down, but his 8th video ( figure drawing part 1) is probably one of the best ones and has some insanely valuable stuff in it.

Here's 3 tips if you fall for this actually awful meme issue:
>GIMP exists
It has colour to alpha. Colour to alpha white and it will return your drawing to being lines on a transparent background.
>Levels/selective colour in PS exists
It can let you cut out lighter colours. If used remorselessly you will end up with very dark lines but you can also mask it or select it/smooth it/contract it and convert it into a path and then convert it back and fill in the path selection and usually this won't make the resultant ink look like shit
>select similar
This selects similar colours. It obviously won't select your lighter colours.

Make sure that you save seperate psds frequently and if you are too retarded to stick your lineart under a lock you can of course put it in a folder which has the same benefit of preventing you from randomly clicking that layer but also ensures that everything can be neatly categorised.
