>> No.3582979

honestly your drawings are boring is your biggest problem. there's nothing interesting about your technique. it isn't 3d, there isn't form, it isn't really cartoony, there's nothing exaggerated, its not soft or impressionistic, its not even entirely flat either, or abstract, or wild, it's just a boring old outline of something you saw with a little bit of half assed shading.

>>3582792

did you draw that? decent technique. i like that you modified the proportions and didn't just do an exact 1:1 copy of the reference pic. the hair isn't great but i kind of like the contrast between the sloppiness of the hair and the precision of your hatching in the face. seems deliberate enough for me to give it a pass. i like the texture of paper you used, and your range of values. overall nice job. doesn't blow me away but i enjoy looking at it. kind of reminds me of paul calle's technique a little bit actually. solid 8/10

I mean for Juan thing this is my year 2. Van Gogh started the peasant painting studies and his meme painting career in like 1882 and did the big Potato Eaters like ~3 years later in 1885. But he also did 3 studies and a lithograph about it first so I figure I can try a 12x16 or something soon and then do a big ol stretched canvas meme next April.

And I mean I don't necessarily try to deflect. I agreed with what you were saying but just wanted to ramble about muh plans idk.

Lain McCraig isn't that great. He is a highly skilled illustrator. He isn't one of the best in the world, but he is better than the average. He isn't as good as Craig Mullins, for example.

>>3583007

I didn't say it had excellent technique, I said it had decent technique. It also doesn't blow me away. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Part of a good critique is to include both candid responses to the art "it doesn't blow me away" (which is exactly how I felt) as well as pointing out where it can be improved technically, which there wasn't much to improve except for the symmetry issue mentioned by>>3589146. "Decent but not amazing," is a fair assessment.

Good stroke economy and line quality on the face of the girl in the back. Rest of the lines in the drawing are your usual "meh"- you are either pressing too hard or not being careful enough. Remember art is supposed to be beautiful. If you don't care what it looks like, stick to engineering.

Thanks!

As a test, while I was working on it, I took it to my daughter. Since my wife was in the room and I wanted to test them both, I very carefully explained to my daughter that I was about to ask her a "yes or no" question... that is, a question with only two answers - either "yes" or "no". I showed it to my daughter in such a way that my wife could not (yet) see what I had drawn, and asked my daughter if she could tell who it was a picture of.

She answered, "Taylor Swift!"

His eye on the right is in an awkward position, and you fucked it up by shading it too much with black
It looks kinda weird
And his hand misplaced, too
Pose like him and see how weird the hand is, you'd be with you arm close to your chest and only your hand stretching out holding a blade upwards, like what the actual fuck
But it's a nice drawing, I like the scribbling and all
>>3594056
I like this one's idea, but the thing coming out from the bottom right is just shit
The humanoid feature on the land feels like it doesn't belong, it could be more interesting without this "face"
Things can be pretty coll and look alive and sentient without being humanoid, you could work on that, 'cause it's a nice drawing with an actual good idea
The contrasts are good, maybe just a little too black on the left side
And I dig how playful those dimensionless spheres are
The land and tree have all these shadows and textures, and the spheres are simply flat, I like how it works together
>>3594057

Hands are good, maybe too big in comparison to the person's head but I don't think everything has to be realistic and descriptive
>inb4 muh proportions and Loomis
Yeah, proportions are good, but fuck off, we can play around, conveying different things other than objectively portraying reality
Fuck that shit

This one is your best, in my opinion
The idea is nice, the composition works well
The moon (I guess) is fucked up, though
Doesn't look good, it's like a ball of cotton with some compressed chantilly around it
The clouds could be better if you gave them enough space between lines
But I like this drawing and the whole idea and the technique reminds me of Shintaro Kago
This board is full of retards who will only appreciate objective and realistic drawings, but I'd recommend you to keep drawing and doing it your way

ay thanks for the crit , if ur interested , here's the almost finished ver of the 2nd drawing, quite big

I did not post this one because i think the head is the strongest part of the piece, plus the 4mb size limit means i can't zoom in on it.

Also yeah in terms of trad works I go WAYYYYYY more liberal with size/proportion compare to my digital counterparts, it's more or less an outlet instead of having to bind myself in rules.

Really interesting you picked up on that, I always had to explain to people how that shit was supposed to be about mid-autumn festival body horror shit.

Great crit btw appreciate it dawg

your line weights are excellent how do you do itttttt

I use alot of tools, and a variety of techniques, stippling, 0.05mm micron to 0.5 micron, pentel brush pen etc...
If you can identify what you're rendering, you will have a better idea of what kind of line weight to use.

I think Ink is a very experimental type of medium, if you have heard of calligraphy, things like having good posture, mastering the stroke etc .. aren't bs, it's almost a medium of perfection, which kinda make sense because of how much commitment you going for each time you press the brush agains the surface. I would advise you to take your time anon and just do alot of quick sketches, preferably on a portable notebook, with all kinds of pen, brushpen, and even watercolor brush, so you know the handling of your tools. When it all boils down to just ink and pen and paper, everything becomes important anon, posture, how you hold the pen, speed, how hard you press, how much ink is being hold into your brush, is it wet or dry ... Be aware of all of it, and you will feel more control over the medium.

I havent tried fountain pen, but that's definitely what im going for next.

Legs are kinda off. The body is in 3/4 view while the legs are front view. Other than that I like it.

Pretty sure this isn't yours. It was posted on /ic/ ages ago. If it is yours then you should draw something new. I have this saved, and also a in-progress pic of it so choose your words wisely.

I would've already scanned the book for you guys if it weren't for 2 things
1.Almost all of the drawings from the book are readily available online.
2.I don't have a scanner.
I guess I could just take pics of it.
Also I'm this >>3591628 guy
