are they? If they are its probably one of a few reasons
1. digital work is older/outdated, and my traditional work is more current.
2. digital work tends to be more design or (lol)speedpaint oriented, and less observational/very little refs. Traditional stuff I'm just focusing on learning gouache, and learning how to mix colors observationally. Planning on tackling longer illustrations once I've got a good gap in time, but right now I'm trying to patch holes in lighting knowledge that i know im lacking from life painting.
3. digital work tends to be much more experimental, so trying weird colors

yo I don't mean it to humble brag.

To elaborate. the guy came up in the middle of my painting and was some old dude who (inadvertently) was a bit patronizing. He told me to come back when its done and hed buy it off of me, and then offhandedly was like "ur a pro now heh heh"
After that I basically dropped the ball hard and suffered for 2 hours trying to recover the painting, then sucked it up and dropped it off because money is good.
It was just a super surreal, awkward experience and made me feel like I was getting handouts from a food pantry or something.

hmm.
Basically since I'm just doing plein airs for enjoyment and learning, there's no risk of "failure" and I can be confident and bold with my marks and decisions. due to this I think I approach it more intuitively and mindfully.

But when the dude came out and offered money for it, suddenly it evoked that focus on the end result instead of just casually enjoying process and I lost most of the confidence I typically have with my work. Chalking it up to not catching myself in that type of thought loop, and maybe taking a 20 minute break before trying to rework the stuff I wasn't feeling.

Today has taught me, that people have more strength inside of us than we know.
I got the worst wake up phone call of my life. My mom called me crying and hysterical. She had somehow torned her internal stitches (she had a big operation a couple of weeks ago) and was bleeding pretty bad. I live pretty close to her, so I hauled ass and got her an ambulance. Thanks to quicke actions of the hospital staff, she got that shit stitched up and is doing fine now. I still drew today. It was garbage, but I was still able to draw today and post it. I have been cooking for four or so years. This year I have been trying to focuse on more healthy food. Lot less red meat, more chicken and veggies. Fried rice, with veggies, mushrooms and eggs was todays food for example, simple and tasty. I am not great at it, but I can whip up some decent stuff.

It's good that you are able to turn that vidiya mentality to art, a powerful tool to be sure. Also good that you are still able to enjoy video games, that is something I struggle with. I always feel so damn guilty.

>>3483276 #
I used to do that all the time, until I found drawing. After that, The other things I enjoy just kinda found me. I am impressed anon, go get that blackbelt my dude.

Nice dude. Must be really cool to have people you known for a long ass time, who you can gush with about a shared passion. I am guessing you got pretty good at it? As a kid, I latched on to skating(due to playing Tony Hawk games) but I never had any true passion for it, so I never got any good.

Badger Update!

>Current challenges

The Album Challenge has concluded. 8 badges were awarded. I think everyone who participated did an excellent job. This is the rarest badger as of right now.

The Hands Challenge has concluded, also. 21 were awarded, making at least 2100 hands drawn! That's an impressive effort daddos.

Plein Air June is ongoing and it seems like the fatigue is starting to set in. 17 participants remain current forecast for circulation of this badger is pessimistically at 14. I hope for more though, only nine more to go!

Finally for current challenges, we have Can You Feel It?. No forecast for this challenge as it's hard to gauge, but by the end of today the participants should be at least 733 gestures. If for some reason you haven't started but intend to finish it, 111 gestures need to be done every day, plus one extra. Good luck if you're that guy.

>Upcoming Challenges
In order of start date (the challenges page sorts this way automatically):
Louis Wan (the cat one), June 25
Animation: July 1
Towergirls/boys: July1

>Other
Banana has confirmed that the 1000 page challenge will be removed. You can sleep easy now.

Summer challenge has started. While not all the daddos are fortunate enough to be warm/on fire for the next 92 days, I hope we finish up with more than the 19 flawless we had during spring! I believe in all of you.

Yeah, THPS was one of the things that got me into skating too. I never got too good at it (like doing all grinds or flips from all stances), mostly because I didn't stress myself with learning tricks I didn't like, and did it just for fun and company. Ironically everyone I knew who came close to pro level stopped skating, because when you practice constantly you often forget to enjoy it and it just feels like a chore. It's the same thing with drawing really, if you feel that it becomes a chore, just back up and try to have some Fun With a Pencil, to remind yourself why you started doing it in the first place.

(album art) the composition is off, but the design is dope. those hands are cool as hell, though i wish the eyes were more pronounced. they're flat

>echo

>potatoes_spaghetti
comfy- makes me wanna paint too!

>dough
horses arent that lo- .. oh. i guess they are. looks odd to me still, but i can't really put my finger on what it is.

>Aruvee
the background clashes with the foreground character. you could have left out that middle brown pillar altogether. and maybe add some subtle reflective light to the shadows on the character. i like his face, though

>Thaane
woah, i don't think ive ever looked at your stuff before. really good shit my man

>poloski
you gonna add some designs to the limbs to tie the design together? as i stands now the skull and limbs look like they dont belong together

>Femmipoo
congrats on christening a new sketchbook! it better be full before the end of the year :^)
your album art is really stellar, but i would've brought the horizon line lower to fit the 1/3rd rule. the height right now creates an awkward composition

>dattab

Can I get some opinions on career stuff?
I'm trying to decide on two very different art-related career paths.
One is a personal project (Left and middle pics) that I'd really like to pursue but will probably not turn any eyes, let alone a profit.
It also isn't too good for improving at art since there is almost no painting involved and the artstyle is really simplistic, however I get to design and draw whatever the hell I want however the hell I want and it would be cool to have published something, specially an original IP.
The other one is to try to pursue an internship in a somewhat big game studio near from where I live, the pros are that it will be great for learning, eventually getting a decent industry job, make parents happy, and it's a pretty "arthouse-y" studio, so they have some interesting projects, the cons are that I would have to use a lame-ass industry-bro style (pic on the right), that I have 0 guarantees of getting the internship, that I forfeit most of my creative input and the 9-5 normiehood.
Any thoughts are welcome as I'm completely lost.

>> No.3485485

Hmmm... I'd have to ask where you are in your life. Can you afford to "fall behind" while you risk working on your personal project in a gamble to reap its unusual benefits?

I spent some extra time in college... switched majors, switched schools, and as it turned out, my younger brother and I ended up finishing our undergraduate degrees at the same time. I joined the workforce almost immediately - a choice that set me on my career track for a long time now - while he went on a grand adventure to South America where they built a balsa wood raft in an attempt to reach Hawaii.

I'm not making this up.

Anyway, I've encountered a lot of interesting things in my life, and so has my brother, but I tell ya - it seems nicer to me to have the security of a "real job" with benefits and be able to put that first. Like having a college degree, a real job can be a serious stepping stone that opens doors you might not even know where there.

getting your first job/internship etc. is worth more than most anything else in this industry.
the risk being that #2 you're probably going to phone it in and do a subpar product and not get the internship.

Obviously the internship. Not only it's good that you get that networking going for more job opportunities later, you said yourself that is a good opportunity to improve your art. After you leave, with a better set of skills, with better art and workload management, and hopefully money savings in the pocket, you can work on your personal project. Along the way maybe you get fast enough to work on both paid and personal projects at the same time.
