For a fact, from the few that are available, that's not what an atelier in Japan looks like.

Nice saturated meme thread

i'm kinda surprised that a Japanese art uni would take such a western, traditional stance. but then again, it's not that much of a surprise, come to think of it.
what really surprises me is that your uni promotes these cancerous learning books. there wasn't a single time that anyone at my uni mentioned any of these "how to learn xy" mental-enema books without being completely sarcastic. there's a lot you can ruin by sticking to this material, if you have no guidance.

I'd argue that this absolute madman is in the top percentile of anime art from a technical standpoint, but I don't think everyone is aiming to be like him of Miura.

I've seen his "anatomy of anime girls" but never actual anatomy, got an example?

No offense mate but i studied in italy for 4 months (which sucked btw). Ateliers are much cheaper overseas especially then art schools in america. You just have to save a lot of money or get student loans.

I took some pictures from the book where he mentions it for the first one. Kagawa has also stated multiple before too that he bases his construction on Loomis's methods, but I can't be assed to find the source.

Cause we don't live in the 1500s anymore where italy is even relevant artistically. It just was depressing if anything surrounded by all this beautiful art but no one really cares anymore, its just sort of a stagnant country.

Baudelaire made an interesting remark about how painters would do better to learn to master the female dress/clothing instead of greek sculptures and all that in his time, as the fact is while the human body will always be important to any art piece, society changes and what society wants is changing.

If you look at the italian ateliers and their graduates most of the students coming out looking nearly identical, its depressing really.

Having a good teacher is important, but wherever in the world inspires you or forces to you to make your best art is where you should be after you know some fundies.
