You might not get a lot of comments because your drawings are not illustrative, neither are you really doing anything wrong either so you might not get crits. However I think you're all doing great and I'm very proud of you!

For the carrot showerhead I used Pigma Brush pens. The Watermelon ground is a mix of the brush pen for the top darker green and the magneta body portion was colored with Winsor & Newton BrushMarkers.

>after drawing, look at the reference
>compare and notice/fix issues

Ironically, you still need references to learn to draw without references. You just need to look at the reference AFTER drawing rather than before.

It'll look like shit for a while, but you'll eventually get it.

nigga, you can look at your references while drawing from imagination the imagination part is using constructions or remixing elements to create something new based on reference.

Drawing things from imagination can mean so many things.

It can mean mean that you visualize something in your mind's eye and then trying to draw that, it could be construction/exploration--only having a rough idea what you want to do and "discovering" the final piece through experimentation.

Or it can be what you describe which is using reference as a baseline and then combining etc. but I think this isn't strictly drawing from imagination.

I looked at too much ZoE concept art for inspiration on how to draw "feminine" mecha and tried to very naively emulate Shinkawa's style. Ended up looking a little too derivative for my tastes, so I'll probably rework it or scrap it as far as the challenge goes.

Maybe if there are comments, a way to let the user choose if they want them shown privately or publicly, generally or per piece, because in previous art posting sites I often see nonsensical shitstorms from many years past, and if I were that user, I wouldn't want a piece I'd put effort into always being shown to uninvolved viewers with unreasonable baggage attached. Also if the artist developed in the intervening years, it would be helpful if new viewers could critique from an original angle without casually following the lead of the previous comments

I think like counter kinda goes against the principle of the website. This is more about personal growth as an artist. Forming habits and studying. It's not about showcasing your artwork.

As the other anon has said, this is mainly about your personal growth, as well as the shared camaraderie between artists drawing every single day.
You’re not supposed to worry about likes or impressing others, you’re supposed to do the best thing to help you grow as an artist everyday, even if the result is not incredibly interesting or appealing for the time being.

If you want community interaction, think of a really fun challenge or start other forms of interaction yourself.

In the 5500 submissions, there were a little over 900 comments. I think that's an ok amount. About 650 were not replies. 100ish were anonymous.

Draw a sphere, then Ctrl+t, diform? (you know, the deformation grid), turn it into a seed. Rince/repeat according to your perspective. Do not use white for light but yellow. Like, naples yellow. Otherwise it's agood idea to use big brushes for strawberry body.

I really like the design Kirikae, however pay attention that different parts are not the same size, right now everything in the upper part blends together. The most appealing designs are made by creating contrast in scale. Learned this from one of my teachers who is a god at design.

Also try to have a certain Hierarchy of big-medium-small details within one shape, so for example on the chest you could have one big armor plate, two medium plates, and small 6 screws / holes or whatever. This is a very impotart design rule that makes anything more pleasing to look at.

I sort of see what you mean. Chest are was giving me trouble since I kept trying to fit some kind of cockpit/hatch into it but it just wasn't working, ended up just filling in panel lines and random details which is pretty sloppy in hindsight.

Personally other changes I'd make if i were to iterate on it would be to make the side panels pop more to break up the contour. Also definitely ways to tweak the colour scheme to separate the forms more. And that's just the chest, plenty of ways to improve the rest of it as well.

But that's the reason I'm doing all these experiments and sketches before committing to anything final for the challenge.
