I'm still sick, but I'm gonna work through it to get the submissions working by the new deadline.

aight i'm now on some antibiotics for an infection i've contracted in my ear, which is exacerbating my current illness

sensitivity to ear infections is sort of a chronic condition of mine, so i'm not all that surprised, hits me at least once every three or years or so; at least now i'm prepared for it.

I have a question abut the seasonal challenges (spring, summer):
I'd like to try for these badges, but while I always draw every day, actually getting it into a form to submit daily for the site would probably be counterproductive time-wise, since my days are pretty well packed. (I was going to compromise with going through the submitting process about twice a week- I've been working in all sorts of media, so it'd require staging, scanning, photos, etc.)
So my question concerns the requirements for the seasonal badges- in the 'challenge details' description, it says 'Can you draw every day of the spring?' but in the reward:description, it says you need only draw once a week.
Did you mean 'can you draw [every day you have set yourself to submit this month]?' or 'can you submit art every day, in a literal sense?' (I really hope it's the former- if not, I'll probably try to make it work despite it's being unrealistic to my daily life, and will end up needing to let the site go. But thanks for any answer.)

On a different note, since I haven't chimed in yet, thanks so much banana for doing this for us.
I'm happy when you push the dates back, since I've got so much on my plate now. Honestly take as much time as you need. I'm really grateful for all the time you've given us. There's honestly nothing in the slightest you need to apologize for, and I'm not sure there could ever be. You're awesome.

I highly doubt you are so busy you cannot afford a singular minute to upload a picture to the site everyday. Nobody will care about your "staging", especially not if it's a temporary measure and you take a better photo in the future. Take a picture with your phone in whatever lighting is available and upload it everyday. If your schedule is that strict that you risk missing a deadline anyway, create a buffer of one day, meaning you are always drawing to submit on the next day.

To address your original question, the seasonal challenges operate on a score system - meaning that you technically participated if you just posted one drawing. However, the description also indicates that there will be different badges based on your score so for all intents and purposes, you are very much encouraged to post daily. These seasonal challenges are simply a way to encourage latecomers to participate - they still follow the principle of LAS, which is drawing everyday without fail.

My dad never kept his promises or delayed activities I wanted to do together until they lost all meaning. I remember how I nagged him to go to newly opened pool in our town back in 00's. He went 3 years later only because he got back pain. I wasn't waiting 3 years to go there of course, I went with friends in meantime because I loved to swim. It was never the same though. I was full of joy when we finally went together, but I wasnt able to bury my growing sadness. Not for now, but I'm slowly working on it. If I'll keep my job I might move out in following months, but the problem is that I wanted to go to university and if I would, I'd be stuck here for another few years. I consider start doing commissions but I need to expand my following first. Perfect solution would be living off commisions and study but I its a risky move and I don't think I'll be able to reach this goal in just few months

It sure as hell is not pretty, but submissions will open in 19 minutes.

Other notable changes:
You can actually fucking join challenges now. Apologies to nka, I've pushed the start date of your challenge out a week so that people can join it so they don't get locked out of it.
Site challenges will now accurately reflect the tiers of badges you can gain. Custom-made challenges may only have one badge at a particular specified threshold, but from what I've seen in the previous iterations of LAS, that's sufficient. Let me know if there's significant demand for similar tier specifications in challenges, though for the small things it's designated for, it seems like overkill.
Also, badge images should not break when you change the name of the challenge.
Be careful when uploading submissions, I haven't implemented the functionality that allows you to edit/delete stuff, but that'll be coming soon.
Moreover, the nsfw filter isn't in place yet, but that's coming soon.

I'm fucking exhausted. I think I've written more code in the last two weeks then I have in three months of my previous software development job. I'm going to get some dinner then scramble away at more code tonight.

The expectation is that you spend at least 30 minutes daily/every other day/weekly/whatever on the submission that you make.

There is no tribunal in place (at the moment), and I don't think DAD merits one since a tribunal is kind of unnecessary.

If you're really looking to get better, DAD is simply a tool for you to get back into the habit of drawing daily. Simply submitting garbage for the sake of increasing an arbitrary number does nothing for you. It's not even an interesting way to troll.

People have done so in the past, and have lost interest very quickly. If you want to game a system and accumulate points arbitrarily, there are many, MANY much more interesting places to do that.

Apparently, something has caused memory spikes that exceed our quota consistently.

This is likely due to some optimization process that I might have overlooked.

It seems like nothing has been adversely affected, despite this, other than the possibility of slowness, judging by the thread.

After I finish up this last vital bit of functionality, I'm going to dig into any development-side ways to resolve this, or just spring for hosting it on a dyno with increased memory (at significant increased monthly cost, but nothing I can't field) if I'm too dumb to figure it out or it's not possible to fix.

File upload limits have been decreased from 50 MB to 2.5 MB.

We keep hitting memory quotas on Heroku, and I want to see if this mitigates the issue. Otherwise, I'd have to pretty much double/triple my hosting costs.

I had intended, at site launch, to write and display an open letter as far as why I wanted to do this and what LAS means to me.

After the site reaches a certain level of completion where I can say "it's done, now we're in the maintenance and upgrading phase", and I finally post that to the website, I'll elaborate more on why I so adamantly oppose taking donations.
