I'm not trying to make it, I just want to make cute fanart. Loomis and realism is so god damn boring. How do those fanartist japs on pixiv/twitter do it.

You fell for the Loomis meme. He's a terrible teacher. His books are just a circle jerk on his drawing process.

You don't have to master realism. Just learn it and move on. Then go draw your anime and apply your fundies there.

What terrible things does Loomis teach that are unique to Loomis? Seems to me it's all very basic stuff that every other teacher teaches as well.

For some reason, people like you always make me feel a bit sad. It's fairly obvious that you are very frustrated and angry. You most likely genuinely tried to get good at art, yet the very first, most basic hurdle you came across made you stumble and fall and you can't get up. Loomis is by far the most beginner friendly teacher of the fundamentals, yet you are too dumb to even understand his books. What can you do now? If even Loomis is too much for you, there is no other teacher left that can possibly help you. You are stuck in /ic/ Limbo, trying to pull wandering noobie souls down with you. Truly a sad existence, I pray for you.

>draw first then fundies
Okay, if you arent shitposting here is the problem: it will look bad. You don't need to understand loomis advanced figure drawing books, but if you are not down to do something basic like learning to draw still life or fundies like the ones in fun with a pencil, you are a lost cause. even shadman had to learn to draw trough muscle memory and references.

Don't put the cart before the horse.

That being said, you have to learn how to have fun drawing OP. You have to learn what you like to draw and it what way you like to draw, even if you don't like drawing you can still do old master tier shit if you enjoy finnishing, the fact that you created a drawing (a good example is satoshi urushihara, creator of plastic little, who in an interview said he thought of drawing as a chore but loved to create stuff, which seems to be akin to your case, OP).

Feng Zhu said that you must doodle and learn how to like drawing before you can really draw, you seem to be skipping that big and important step.

My advice: GO AWAY until you have learned how to put pencil on paper without killing yourself. If you hate drawing and not the grinding of drawing, you are not ready.

You should experiment how you like to draw and you like to draw. here is a good book teaching you how to experiment:

when you are past the phase of doodling then comes improving, that's when you come to /ic/ anomalous. go be a happy weeb until you are sure you want to improve

>>3318199
What book "comes after" fun with a pencil? I found that one somewhat decent in teaching and showing the process of what he's trying to do but all the others seem to just be a wall of text with an overly detailed drawing. It doesn't help that long periods of reading is strenuous and tiring for me.

this. OP if you're the kind of person that would rather play video games than attempt something as basic and as ubiquitous as say drawing a still life, or even just scribbling for the fun of it, then you just don't have the initiative to produce the kind of work that you see and like on twitter.

>> No.3318424

Here's my philosophy:

>grind books and boring stuff
>draw less because its boring, even though you learn more

>do whatever you like, drawing fun things and doing paintings with lots of colour and stuff
>draw more often, even though you learn less

However, because you draw more often, you end up putting far more hours in and you end up making lots more progress as the hours fly by without you realising as you're actually enjoying yourself. I don't completely throw booklearnin out the window though, I just find lots of things that you learn through books you eventually learn through just going at it painting from life and stuff.

>>3317518
They've never even heard of Loomis. Face it dude, Loomis and "grinding the fundamentals" are a fucking meme. All your favorite jap artists got where they are by drawing what they like.

Most of /ic/ falls for the trap of grinding boring shit they don't enjoy, and they get too bored and give up eventually. You have to enjoy what you're doing to keep going. Trying to draw Loomis and realism is just living someone else's dream. You shouldn't do that, you should draw for your own enjoyment (since it's unlikely you'll ever get famous anyways with an excess of artists in the world nowadays)

I think what a lot of people forget is that they cut their teeth on getting into drawing during their youth. When it comes time to learn real fundies and git gud they are already well acquainted with art in general. So there is this disconnect when explaining to an adult how to get started because a lot of the shit they did when they started to learn real skills was already backed up by years of doodling or painting or whatever they did growing up

You have to be able to draw what you see, truthfully, and when I say seeing not just with your eye, but with your brain too, observe the subject, understand it, drawing from imagination is just an act of drawing from memory, Everything you draw relates back to what you have seen, even abstract art.
