So is this how i draw anime?
Loomis says so.

Yes, anime artists just like anyone else also use a circle to represent the cranium and then draw a center line to place the features. How else do you think you draw anime?

>> No.3310324

>>3310319
but the way loomis draws it looks off compared to the japanese style of drawing.
Its weird people on here tell people to stop drawing anime style and draw like loomis but here is loomis drawing anime.

Look at the chapters for children and young people, there you will find the right proportions for anime.

Loomis is a meme, he uses too many planes in his construction. Not much people can grasp what Loomis does because they get caught in the details. This Robert Marzullo guy fell for the Loomis meme and resorts to symbol drawing faces as a result. This is 99% of Loomis adherents.

It took me about a page of attempts before I got rolling with it. It is now the only technique I use even when drawing a head from the rear, because it ensures correct placement of noticeable features.

>it's the thing's fault no the person

As an aside, I don't know what it is but every artist that uses sketchbook pro sucks, like really bad. I made the mistake of "liking" them on facebook (I think it was in exchange for access to a slightly higher version of their free software at the time) but I got sick of terrible art being posted on my wall every day.

I just follow the Famous Artists Cartoon Course and Preston Blair so I don't draw anything anatomical but I've gained the ability to spot symbol drawing BS from how simple cartooning works.

>>3310526
This is basically how classic cartooning works, simplify the planes by rounding out the form, then build it up. So something like this for more anatomical stuff would be nice although this guy seems to get carelessly sloppy as he goes on and at that point you fall back in the symbol drawing zone when you lose control of your forms so watch out.

>>3310533
Eh, just use whatever methods that works for you. It's just a permutation of the same concept. That goes for any (correct) construction methods, they all use the same idea, what matters is how comfortable and useful you find it.

The only thing that you should be a bit holistic about is the actual underlying anatomy (skull, muscles, fat deposits, skin, etc.) because it stays true regardless of construction methods you use.

Loomis is a skeleton to laid flesh in, a foundation to build your structure, a frame to put your vehicle on top. Without it, your anime drawing will look like a bag of rubber, a building with no plan ahead that will fall apart, a piece of junk that barely function.

You can try to fix the symptom by adding more cement, adding glue hoping the pieces won't fall apart, but it will never fix the root causes of why the drawings suck, never fix the fact that you lack foundation. It'll take you 1 year to make the progress of who take 1 month to learn the basics.

Just my opinion, I am a beginner with the figure myself. I say bridgeman yes, loomis no.

The simplified conception of bridgeman will help you out more and be more applicable to many different stylizations of the figure, esp out of your head. Loomis is too specific to a style of illustration.

Bridgman's drawings are disgusting, inscrutable nonsense. He is the apex meme artist of /ic/ that only literal retards that don't draw buy into.

>> No.3311934

>>3311859
Construction is not a meme, retard. Really good artists are able to come up with poses from the spot because they have just that much knowledge on figure and anatomy. The figure itself it's still being constructed, they just don't need to sketch it first, and instead it remains in their head.
