20 long painful years.

Profile page loads were becoming pretty slow for the top-runners, so now only last 50 submissions are fetched on initial load. You can get the rest with the load more button at chunks of 50. Dunno if 50 is the right number, but that's what's set for now.

Also removed clock part of timestamp from submission thumbnails on profiles, and switched username to timestamp on challenge entry thumbnails.

I've thought about implementing something for secret santa on the site. How it would work is people sign up, and then at a date, day, say maybe somewhere between 5. and 10. december everyone is given someone to deliver to at random, and then you have until christmas to submit an image with a message. Your submission would be posted from an anonymous shared "santa" account, so it's unknown who drew unless you recognize the art. The submissions would show up as normal in the submissions, but maybe with a special christmas border.

Yay/nay?

An alternative is 2 people are paired up, then when you post you can tag your submission as "this is my gift to person A", and it'd get the border as mentioned before, but it's your own submission as usual, and it would just say that this is a christmas present for person A, almost like how submissions say they're part of a challenge now.

If you want to send the presents physically in the mail tho I wouldn't accommodate that through the site I think, do that through the thread instead.

I don't think I'll ever be at the level I want to. I can't find enough time to practice because of job and I procrastinate. I don't have enough passion, at least not as much as people who grinds 10 hours a day because I'm easily bored of myself. I get mad and sad when I do badly. I want to become one of the greats, but I can't even focus on what I want to draw. It's all my fault so I can't blame anyone. I accept myself for who I am, just a person who likes to draw but not enough. It's time for me to learn to let go.

instead of struggling against the act of doing art, you should focus your attention on first improving those parts of yourself that struggle with art.
i see my art improvement as mostly a journey of self-improvement, and the art comes only as a result of that.
perhaps you need to push yourself through more boring drawing sessions until you just do them every day. (and you don't need to grind 10 hours. you probably shouldn't be "grinding" at all)
or perhaps you need to really look and try to make the process more enjoyable and interesting for yourself. it could be something you're actually doing or not doing. or it could be simply the perspective you've taken about your drawing that makes it less enjoyable and engaging, like obligations or expectations you might have set yourself up with.

you can maintain your current level by simply doodling or doing mindless studying/copying.

Time spend on studying is important, but not the most. You can learn art like math or biology or whatever, but there's high chance you end up as burned out shell of a person. I'm taking a 1 year intense course in fundies at this new entertainment design school in Rome, in the beginning it was just too intense and I couldnt find time to upload.Gotten used to it now though, so I started wasting away the weekends, but thats not good, so hopefully joining up here again will put a stop to that.

I haven't even gotten time to go sightseeing/sketching more than once since I came her. A concept arist named Jort just started a Plen Air group for the school, so thats gonna be cool.

The school is called Idea Academy if any of you fellow EUfags want to check it out. Its still really small with only bout 50 students or so, but man is it cool. The master course has a weekly feedback session with an art director from pixar who directed movies like WALL-E, Incredibles and finding Nemo.

Lol well its not all sunshine and rainbows. The workload on the master course is ridiculous, even though we only have 3 classes a week. So they expect you to spend pretty much all of your time working and being efficient, and its super stressful. Especially since you have to report your progress to a fucken pixar art director. Its easy to end up hating drawing when you're working this hard, so we have to be careful. I think Im handlin it pretty well so far though, but the fundementals course is not as intense as the masters.

Well if you live alone you'll probably need to rent a single room in a shared apartment or live at a campus or something. On "spot a home" (which you basically have to use unless you speak italian) its around 450-500euro a month for a private room in a shared apartment and400 for a shared room I think.

My friend and I got help from the shool with translation etc so we actually managed to rent a pretty spacious apartment for 930 a month, though I know you can get one for like 700 if you live a bit further away from the school.

What are your goals lad? You've been drawing the same basic perspective stuff for over a year now and your getting diminishing returns. There's barely any improvement from what you were doing when I left to now. At least go beyond the basic shit and try doing complex environments or something. Perspective is a tool that artists use to git gud, simply gitting gud at perspective wont make you gud. What you're doing is the equivalent of a swordsman sharpening his sword for 2 years without actually going out and training.

I honestly think Jeremias, jerrybreem, the1banana, Saucy and LostAllHope are floundering. It's almost kind of depressing, and I'm not sure whether to suggest a different approach or just throwing in the towel. It's exhausting to look at. I can feel the struggle.

Otherwise, everyone else is making some progress (or just haven't posted enough). Notably, kirikae and beanhead have made great strides, as well as most if most of the blokes who seem to be grinding anatomy right now.

Hey dude, sorry if I came off too strong, It is hard to get proper tone with writing, but I did not meant to come off as such. And I do agree with spending way too long with perspective stuff.

I think I heard a lot of entertainment art folk talk good about Watts and what I seen they do teach drawing figures in a constructive manner and I at least learned a lot about values with just the first video series I watched.But maybe I am wrong, as you know I am not very good at art, so maybe I am not the best judge what is good or bad content for what path in art. do you have any recommendations?

I may also be stepping out of line in talking about Proko, but I think the dude never really moved past drawing from life or reference. personally try to draw from memory (basically all the furniture I post are drawn from memory) or from imagination actively (the horrible cartoons etc I sometime post) but again I am shitter, so everything I say hold little merit.

Your tone was fine, I reread my post and it sounded a little harsher than I intended. I'd say what would help you the most atm would be to step away from strict rigid drawings and try to go looser. Looser perspective sketches, do environment studies on top of simple grids instead of mapping everything out, lots of quick gestures from ref and imagination, etc. For figure drawing I guess Watts is alright, you've been on /ic/ long enough so you probably know a million different resources. I'd just say that if your end goal doesn't involve super accurate perspective drawings then you should move on from them. If your goal is industrial design then you should try to apply your perspective skills into applicable projects. Try to design simple objects, cars, ships, etc with scott robertson's method. Just try to envision a clear goal and try to work towards that. Another thing that could help you is to copy the works of artists you like. If you wanna do technical art then pick some technical artists you like and study their work, same for animation, figure drawing, etc. Copying from good artists is a very good way to improve.

Oh and on the topic of creativity, don't be so down on yourself about that. No one is really all that creative, it's just a matter of learning basic design principles and building up a large visual library/using appropriate refs. You probably haven't studied something like design so obviously you wont be all that good at it yet. Chin up lad, you can definitely make it!

Character design takes a lot of experiementing. Maybe I'm a slow learner but it took me years to come up with characters I actualy liked.

Would it be weird if I used to be really active in LAS (posting art, and talking in streams and discord) but quit art and talking to everyone, then started participating in drawing and the community again? I really regret cutting ties and wasting so much potential art time.
