Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I made some corrections like the angle of the shin, the width of the chest. One main thing I notice is that I made her head huge, maybe it's the forehead.

I feel like I'm still drawing it flat. I do try to think about the 3d shape and planes but mostly I just get lost in the shading. Let me know what you guys think.

>> No.2865898

>>2865890
I didn't do anything set, I just drew a lot and studied a lot and eventually when I went back to draw what I wanted, my skill level had raised. About five hours per day, sometimes more, since I did project based work and had deadlines to meet.

But if I had to say, I did a lot of drawing from life and references. I sought out to understand the world. I have read Keys to drawing and Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain without having done the exercises, however, there's no doubt what I did would be what those books tell you. Such as negative space and iteration.

Although, I didn't draw many pieces to be honest. I focused many hours onto a single piece and erased many times to make sure I got it right. Proportions was one of those things that really take forever to get right. In addition to that, I did a lot of rendering with pencil and in digital. This helped me understand form as it turns in response to light and shadow.

In the end, I guess you say that by building up your basic skills of just drawing and seeing, you become able to draw the things you have always wanted to. It's quite an odd feeling and surprise. I've gotten so much better that I can't even say that I will ever be as bad as I was before. There is one more thing though and it's that you will only become good at the things you draw. This is important. If you never practice drawing sexy anime girls, you never get good at them which is how I'm feeling right now. They're getting better with each day, but even after that month, I could tell it was going to take some work and that's kind of how drawing goes. If you want to get better at something, you work up your basic skills as well as drawing the thing you want to.

Maybe, one very last thing and that's to always give your best. I did that and it got me here. I always strive for perfection even if I don't reach it and I'm sometimes unsatisfied, but to see your end result be something that you've never achieved before is still amazing.

i don't really see why this is a bad thing. it looks like you should be starting from scratch with lines.

if these are supposed to show you have some understanding of anything needed to draw hands realistically, they don't. i'm not just trying to shit on you, i'm trying to be honest.

maybe some other anons can weigh in here, but i don't think i'm wrong.

are there any book/methods to learn to:

following the sticky, currently on perspective made easy, but is there any recs specifically to landscapes?

my drawings always end up very messy and fuzzy, like, you can barely understand whats going on or how far/close things are...

That's something that develops with practice. Line control develops from working the muscles until they are precise. Drawing more often will help that. You also can develop line confidence by making yourself work fast or with a pen. By not being able to spend forever on a drawing and not being able to fix mistakes, you make yourself learn faster. Frame by frame animation is good for this because you draw a lot and you have to work quickly and trust your hand.

You can also deliberately work on it by doing draftsmanship exercises, see links below

The contour under the eyes is too strong. Weaken it! Use a lighter line under the eye, particularly as the left eye gets nearer towards the nose and the right eye goes away. More curvature on that bevel past the left iris, a thicker line for the left eyebrow, narrower in the middle and offset to the left slightly, rotate the lips counter-clockwise at a slant. You've got to spend more time at it, and whenever you feel frustrated: try and pinpoint where you went wrong and restate it. Do not erase, put the new line next to the old line, or else it isn't very informative.

You might not want to take advice from me,

Do you guys think meditating 1 hour a day, trying to visualize or construct 3D grids out of images from memory in your head would help internalize Linear perspective?

>> No.2867944

>>2867940
No, 3D grids are useless. You need to be able to visualize something clearly from all angles. Just visualizing something clearly from one angle is hard enough for most people to the point people believe it's a talent to think in 3D. You must be able to visualize the lines that make up the object as if you were drawing them with your mind's eye, because if you can do that, you can also draw them with your hands. But can you really remember something from memory and visualize clearly? Likely not, you don't have the talent. Unless you're up for the challenge.

The scratchy lines make it look disjointed overall and it masks your mistakes. Try redrawing a cleaner contour over it and then repost.

I'd say just from eyeing it that the breasts don't match. The pose looks stiff, it kinda looks like she's shrugging her shoulders, especially the left. She's also slouched, and with a head that dis-proportionally big it looks like it's weighing down on her short neck.

When you draw a pose like this, think of the character as standing tall. That means that the head is held up high and chin tucks into the neck, the chest slightly curved outward, the neck is naturally elongated and erect, and the shoulders drop down to create a triangular shape from the neck down. The collar bones then are pulled by the shoulders and flatten.

Lastly, the hair is looks stiff. That can be prevented by using long flowing lines to draw it rather than the scratchy lines.

>But can you really remember something from memory and visualize clearly?

Sometimes, the more tired I get the easier it becomes but they tend to be very short lived unless I am on drugs. I find that it also becomes easier if I spent time studying the object before hand.

Why do you say 3D grids are useless? Unless I have the wrong idea of what they are, it seems like they are just exactly what you need to be thinking about to see and understand an object from all possible angles.

I've learned there's a difference between thinking that something you've drawn is good and it actually being objectively good. What you perceive as degradation is only your mind coming to realize that you're not as good as you previously thought you were...and at the same time your learning new things. It's a mind fuck and it's messed with me for a long time. The only thing you can do is keep pushing to learn new things. Once you've gotten to a place that you think something is "good" like head, hands, feet, etc....switch to another. Do this over and over and over. You can also find specific brushes that are aliased.

Two other imperfect methods:
Select tool - Select an area and paint inside it, or draw with an aliased brush slightly too thick, select with wand, and then modify the selection size to trim off the outer 1px. You can also select something that is already painted and go over it once more with an opaque brush, or smudge it to cover any antialiasing.

Duplication - Copy a layer over and over, merge, then copy over and over again until even the faintest opacity sections are opaque. It is now aliased.

These two are really only good for something that you've already done with antialiasing.

1. As long as you're putting in 100% genuine, hard-working effort, don't let anybody tell you that you're "not improving fast enough."

2. You're putting graphite lines onto paper. This should not cause "so much sadness and frustration."

3. If someone tells you to jump off of a cliff, would you do it?

You don't strike me as a very independent person. Are you a neet? Do you live at home? At this point if you have this sort of attitude towards art (and I'll take a guess and say a lot of things in your life) and you find it difficult you probably will still be frustrated for a long time. I really don't like telling anybody that they won't make it because everybody can - it's more of an issue if they have the willpower. But, really, there will be some kind of benefit otherwise you wouldn't have been interested.

And you literally might not give as much of a shit as you think. I don't know what your intentions are behind learning. Could be anything.

Anyway. Let's say you are using every thing you've learned from the sticky's resources. I'm pretty sure you aren't because it takes a lot of time to use them properly. You "know" them but you can't use them.

The process dead ass takes time. That's the end of it. No one knows how long it's supposed to take each individual person. For me? I'm authentically stupid and it's taken my whole life and I still can't do anything.

What?? 2 months of work and you're whining? Some of us have been drawing since we could hold a pencil. Imagine my surprise when after all those years, I realized how little I knew about drawing. Even though I was pretty good at being a copy machine, I decided to basically start over and learn everything I can.

Yeah, it's not for you if you decide that after 2 months you're done. Drawing is laborious and painstaking. There is no shortcut. You have to be able to draw everything you want to see on that paper. It takes a lot of time and tedious effort to hone that skill.

Believe it or not, some of us actually enjoy that process of making mistakes, learning, and improving.

Ask yourself why you want to draw. If you decide to stop, you'll never learn. Simple as that. Then see if you want to keep trying.

Looking at that drawing of yours, I really don't think you've put enough effort into it. People are telling you to read the sticky because it looks like you didn't apply any of what's taught there.

For a beginner, you're drawing is actually not that bad. You've only put in 2 months. Imagine what you could do with a lot more time. Don't think of it as a race either. But remember that if you work hard, study, given time you will be much better than where you are now. You can't help but improve if you really try.

There's nothing stopping you from continuing to practice.
