A Thread A Day

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

→ →
There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

You wont get passed this, you have now the chance to get good at it now..so you don't have that problem in the future anymore and actually get good.
Or you just don't do it and you will be shit for as long as you draw.
Fuck it if it doesn't come out the way you like it at first, but this problem won't go away.

You're focusing too much on the tiny details of the face. Start big. Start with gesture sketching. Just get down the IDEA of what you see first and begin to recognise the big shapes.
Just go quickly and don't give yourself the time to try and call back on your memory. Also don't just draw two; just go at it and keep going. Don't worry about finishing anything for exercises, either.

>> No.2826070

>>2826061
They're mostly solid and fluid, but the opacity is low and will make the colour look strange at the edges (between character and background especially).
If you're not a weeb, I'd recommend using more line weighting (changing the thickness of the lines) in order to draw attention around the drawing properly. Currently, your line weighting looks completely random. Make lines thicker to draw attenion. Thinner to look more 'soft'. I like to outline very thickly around the character to 'pull' them from the background, but that's just my choice.
Also, you're using too much saturation in the red you got down.

That one is using line weighting differently than I described; look at the hatching and cross hatching. The darker the area is, the thicker the lines are. This looks more line a sketch, though, whereas you're doing more clean lineart so far. >>2826077
The one all the way to the right looks like it's including a lot more detail all the way through, whereas the others are simple, if that's what you mean by what you did/didn't do. Sorry if I misunderstood. I think the one on the right looks pretty good, although I recommend practising feet/hands, even if they are a bitch. You enjoy knowing that you'll one day be able to explore your dreams should you never give up. It's a relief that most people in the world will never achieve because drawing isn't something of value to them. They would much rather prefer something else.

I imagine the stuff I'll be able to draw in 3 months, 6 months, a year, 2 years if I stick with this.
I want to draw stuff that people think is great. I want to draw porn. I want to do these things, so I keep practicing lines, boxes, ellipses, and keep studying the fundamentals so I can get good.
The thing about art is that everyone has put in the time. A lot of the artists you enjoy have been putting in the time since they were 4 years old, and thus it was never "boring" to them. We have to do a lot of the boring stuff so we don't have to spend 20 years of "fun drawing" to get to their level.

It's important to do them. You can't draw from memory without practicing drawing from memory.

One thing you could try is bring up some reference and then try drawing it without looking at it at all. After that, look at the reference and try to analyze what went wrong. Then try drawing again taking account for what you noticed. Repeat.

Just read the sticky in the OP, reading "Keys to Drawing", and the first exercise is taking about a half an hour and drawing your feet while not looking at your paper for longer periods of time than glances. Unsure of what I'm doing but if I keep reading, keep practicing, I'll improve, right?

Just want to make art for video games wew.. My feet AREN'T this fat looking so I'm guessing I fucked up somehow..It's hard to space lines out to make sure that what I draw keeps the same proportions to what I see..

Anime and manga, why do you think I'm here?

>I mean we all live in a society which trains as engineers, lawyers, and not as poets, musicians, painters
I mean, yeah. You're sort of right, but as a kid, anything goes, you know? There's no commitments yet and no one really cares if you commit to anything either. It's just later on, a kid will eventually have to make the leap to either follow their dreams or let other people control their life.

But man, anime and manga was my shit, anon. When we were doing the career things in middle school, I saw animator and comic artist and I was like
>this is it man, this is what I want to do

Without working at it as much though. Commitment is hard at that age. There's just a lot of stuff happening like seeing other people who were really kid at drawing already and people throwing around meme words like talent.

Anyways, it's the fact that people who say they want to become an artist and give up, that I want to do this. Everyone I know who has said it, has given up. How disgusting really. Just a bunch of all talk losers.

If you're not going to make it, then I will. You can make dreams come true if you work hard enough for them.

Since April... 1,5 tons of life sketches of people in the subway and doing their things around the city. About 100 A5 pages on both sides. A bunch of cityscapes as I like to document where I go and what I do. Some still life in those occasions there was nothing else to draw around, and some faces from photo reference. I'd say I have filled a total of around 160 pages on both sides.

Drawing from life gives huge dividends over using photos, it is like doing pushups with your brain. After all you will get pencil control over time, but in the end it is the brain who decides which lines to put on the paper and which not to.

Each of these can be the subject of infinite study and observation.”
