Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

→ →
There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

>but painting is so much mroe fun than line drawing ;_;
The thing is, you can't make something without a base.

Lineart is part of the painting.

A painting without construction is just a polished turd.

>I legit kinda like the effect though. I do abuse it here to hide the shit beneath lel

1-Don't do that. Everyone and their mother use them to hide artwork defects, everyone with a trained eye will point it out. Don't be a lazy hack.

2-No you don't like that.
What I'm saying is probably stupid but I'm going to take a wild guess and say what you really like about it is the glassy sharpen like texture. That kind of rendering can be achieved studying glassy like textures.
Other aspect that you may like about it is the way contours are. With the colorful outlines.
That can be achieved with watercolor painting.

TL;DR: Don't half-ass stuff. You can make that with effort.

You're not starting with your darks and transitioning to your lights. You see that almost pitch black value in her hair. You don't have it.

You didn't start with dark values.

You pick that absolute black, and you make it the primary color for the hair, and you build light values on top of it in accordance to that idea.

So you're not picking "BLACK" and then "LIGHT YELLOW" and then "MEDIUM YELLOW"

You're picking "BLACK" then "MEDIUM YELLOW" then "LIGHT YELLOW" and you construct the entirety of the hair/skin/whatever in this manner.

I recommend you make the picture grayscale for now and focus on nailing the values that you see. Don't even fuck with color when you can't even pick the right value.

I'm disappointed how this turned out after how much time I spent on it (about 3 hours), I can see many of the things I did wrong (the positioning of the arms, the curve of the back, the proportions of the lower body in comparison to the upper body, and the face.) but in these cases especially the face I can't really tell why I couldn't get them right, I spent a lot of time trying to correct the mistakes but couldn't quite get them right.
Does it become easier to judge values with practice or is there a resource I can seek out to explain this process?

I don't know why drawing strictly from observation instills pride within myself. It's stupid.

It looks nice, but you could be totally brain-dead and produce the same results.

It's simply a time sink.

Once you know what you're doing, it's totally pointless to do observational drawings unless they're from life.

I now know why I have a total lack of respect for human printers. A bit more time in there and I would hit photo realism just by copying values and reproducing them. I guess there really was validity in my complaints. This practice is truly only good for introducing people to art.

I'd say what's probably best for you is to apply those videos to drawing from life. It's the best way to train your eye, and photographs really aren't comparable to the challenge.

There's no need to try a hand when you can't do a cereal box.

what's the best way to get better at drawing the body when you're almost getting out of the absolute beginner phase? Should I just take random softcore porn pics and try to do them as fast as i can? Should I study each limb under multiple angles? Should I spend lots of time refining and understanding my mistakes on one figure or should I speedgrind a shitton of figures and look back after?

I think my biggest problems atm are proportions and perspective mixed with how some parts of the abdomen and lower body interact with each other.

don't get overwhelmed by all the details. just pick a tree trunk in the background and put that in place, then it's branches, then move to another tree. then do other details like the river, the other house way in the background. and lastly you'll do the smaller stuff in between.

I am starting to homeschool and I already have some basic knowledge but I wanna do it all properly and in the "correct order". Basically I need help coming up with a curriculum. So these are the books I collected from the books thread, in what order should I do this? Should I add/remove something? I'd like to do concept art, mainly environment.
Fundamentals: Perspective made easy, Anatomy for sculptors, Color and light, Hampton figure drawing, The Loomis collection, The animators survival kit, How to draw, Robertson.
Digital art:
Robertson: How to render and The skilful huntsman, Digital art masters: volumes 1-6
Others: The art of animal drawing, Fantasy art workshop (2007)

What do you think? Any help appreciated.

Sketchbook and pencils are way mor convenient because you can get to them fast and it's easier and more natural to draw on that. Digital takes practice and unless your planning on buying a cintiq companion and lugging it around with you you won't be able to draw anywhere at the drop of a hat then your desk. Invest in a tablet if you want but you definetly don't need one. If I were you I'd save money so I can buy a very nice one in the future when you are confident enough in your skillz to transition to digital. I did same and bought myself a Cintiq 13hd, it's my first tablet.
