Let's get real here. How much of /ic/ do you honestly think has a shot at making a living off art?

Surely most of us will fail.

Hehe yeah most of you will fail because you need dedication and opportunity to succeed.

Me however, I'm gonna make it because
>Very supportive parents and friendcircle
>No debt any money I make is fun money, can keep this up for several years
>Access, have access and friendships with a lot of people who are currently pros.

Too bad I don't wanna work in the industry haha

while this is bait, the faggot has a point you need a support system to truly make the ride less painful and "make it".>>2252975
i like to think that many people from here will have enough to pay the rent and go buy pizza once a month while striving for more. I personally make enough for that right now, it sucks yes but its something. kek i'd love to see mikufag, lefty and manic make it that would be priceless rage in this site.

It's possible to make money with art, but I'm not willing to take the chance tbh

Not many. /ic/ reminds me a lot of /lit/, though it does seem a -little- better.

Basically I made my living with writing, and coming to /lit/ was such a fucking joke about 99% of the time. A bunch of shitsters with no clue telling other people how to "make it."

who wants to make a living off that
i just want to make some decent stuff and upload it to deviant art or w/e and maybe give a shit to making a web coming

I don't want to make it in this industry. 21 and I am already addicted to xanax.I doubt I have much time left. I know it sounds gay and dramatic, but I just need a hobby.

>> No.2253023

You must accept that you probably won't make it and try anyway because if you don't try you make it certain that you won't make it

Ideally you should get a real job and do art on the side to maximize your chances of making it comfortably

even tho this is probs bait, i am in the same situation (save the "fun money") and i feel like it's the only reason i've been able to get to the level that i'm at as the person that i am. i'm sure someone insanely dedicated, like comes home after work and just draws till falls asleep could do it as well, but i do feel bad for those who aren't in as privileged a position as i am, even tho i know feeling mopey about how good i have it compared to others will accomplish nothing :c

and i realize even then, it's still not guarunteed that i'll make it, but i do hope the things i create bring others happiness

Not baiting but tbh I hope you guys all make it ofc. But litterally so much is stacked vs you. Mostly because you hang out here. So many people in the draw threads post stuff with basic errors easily to correct but they don't see them?

Can't fix bad taste.

Volatile industry one day you can be art director for award winning show next month you are waiter at low key restaurent serving the people you were supervisng prior.

>>2253046
bruh focus on your own happiness. Does your pics make you happy? No? Why not? In the end noone cares about your pics so you might as well have fun with it at least. The thing is that if you make yourself happy with ur pics then everyone else will also like them.

As in we like hanging out with people who are happy and steer away from the school shooter.

On the whole, I think 3-4% will be able to make a living off art for a decent stretch of time. 20% could potentially do it, but won't, due to one thing or another, and 0% will become well known/famous.

I think if you're trying to get into 'concept art' like most on here, you have less of a chance comparatively. Market is flooded and abusive.

>> No.2253244

>>2253239
I think you're being a little too generous. I doubt 3-4% will make a living off art. There's probably 1000+ people who visit /ic/, and you can count the number of pros on one hand, and they all got their skills from school or the glory days of forums. /ic/ isn't that good a place for people to grow, and it is filled with negative mentalities and a lack of social skills that will probably stop the few who do get their art up to a pro level.

>> No.2253256

>>2253244
So 3-4% would be 30-40. Sounds right to me. Especially if we project into the future, like someone might not make it in the next few years or during their time at ic, but later on down the road. We're not talking about pros here, just 'making a living'

Well, perhaps you could define 'making a living' as a pro, but when you say 'pro' it has a different connotation.

Also, you can make a living at art without ever reaching this imaginary 'pro level' you speak of.

I agree, though, the people who do succeed won't succeed because of ic. It's a social outlet, nothing more.

/ic/ is as good a place to learn as any. ultimately everyone is on their own, uni or not, golden age of CA.org or not, torrenting schoolism classes or not.

you are on your own and your success is entirely dependant on the amount of time you can afford to / want to invest in studying, and (to a small degree) your intelligence.

>> No.2254709

>>2252975
Not many. And it isn't because they aren't good or couldn't get good. It's because they won't.

Granted, this is based on my experiences with the writing community, but I'm kind of seeing the same general stuff with arts. Almost anyone can do it, a lot of people try, very few move past the initial exercises, and of those who get far enough to try and sell something, fewer still will be working a year down the line.

Again, it isn't because people couldn't, it's because they don't. It takes work, yeah, but it takes dedication and the ability to motivate yourself even when shit sucks. And most people can't do that shit.

>> No.2254760

97% of /ic/ won't ever make it, me included.

I'm sure there are lurkers here who would make it somewhere. The waifu/porn/concept art fags? Probably not.

But you never know.
