There's nothing wrong with drawing animu, anon. You don't have to completely stop liking something to get better, keyword here is balance. Do studies but don't forget to have fun, too. You need to apply these studies on what you actually want to draw, you know?

Self posting as well

I haven't actually finished anything after one of the last ones on here (at least I think) but I have almost 20 WIPs that have like over 40 hours sunk into them, so hopefully I'll be able to just finish them this year. I might have to wait until school is done with, but just one semester left (so fukn pumped)

I have a plan to just study insanely hard after I finish all those WIPs and school. I have a folder of about 50 images of just really cool stuff/good study material and I plan on doing a study of each and then a personal work from imagination afterwards. Hopefully after that, and with some accessory anatomy/fundamental stuff I'll reach almost God tier. My lust for power is now insatiable

That's pretty much how I did everything, I'd get an idea and sketch it out and then get references for stuff I couldn't figure out along the way. I think that is kind of backwards, or maybe not. I never really started with fundamentals or did proper studies, that's kinda why I wanna see where they can take me

from a figure drawing class I took, starting bottom left going counter clockwise. Still bad but I'd like to think its a little bit of progress.

Maka from soul eater, drawn 4 different times on the /a/ waifu drawthread. I thought it was cool to compare them. The first one was done in the week I first started drawing.

I know it's not that great, but I finally hit a year in art. In another year, I'll post again and I'll be real good. I promise

I don't understand how people can be so bad at something they love, if you have more than 6 solid months of hard work into something you should at least be proficient in multiple aspects. With the resources available nowadays there's no reason not to.

Actually /ic/ is a place where people have at least skimmed through if not read Loomis and Vlippu but they're too afraid to actually do anything because their scribbles don't look close to what they do. Since there's a divide between knowledge and ability they just don't draw anything and fall back to their learned knowledge.

Acidenema loves the Art Spirit by Robert Henri. Just pointing that out there. He also takes the meaning 'work in progress' to the next level, because he is always progressively changing his wips.

He's recommended to some people before to make a painting, spend only 20 minutes a day on it, and make it your desktop background. Look at it throughout the day, make the changes you want in those 20 minutes of the next day.

He paints a lot. IIRC he doesn't have much of a schedule in terms of what comes first in art, just does. When something's wrong in your paintings, don't let it stay wrong. Fix it. Do everything you can to make the best painting you can now. Be the master of your tools now, the skills you have now, do everything you can with them. Skill is developed most quickly when you utilize what you have, not by waiting to go 100% when you're 'finally good.'

That's more or less the essence of advice he would give.

The thing is I have stared to experiment with style. I still work with my fundamentals but my focus has not been to just draw it has been to experiment with myself to find and enhance "muh style" and I think the reason why I'm doing that is because I find myself in a disadvantage if I draw/paint like everybody else in a sense I had to play alot and use more brainpower in the second part of 2014. I just started valueing different elements in art and testeing to see what works and what doesnt.
