>Drawing is everything, anyone can learn rendering, it's by far the esier of the two skills.
RJ has much more natural and appealing shape design than Krenz, though.

>Highly rendered boring artwork is only appealing to beginner artists because of the skill factor, something they want to attain.
That's because beginners don't have an eye for value, edges, composition or shape design. Coincidentally the part that people like you seem to be completely unaware of when you try to critique his work.

>The left hand artists IMO has more creative work, and is more marketable.
Creativity is subjective. People like Krenz because he has a painterly anime style, and anime is a popular style. But Krenz probably won't appeal beyond his style choice to any art student that takes art seriously. RJ's older personal work is way more expressive and painterly than you guys ever give it credit for.

>He could always work on his painting style to develop more highly rendered areas inside his paintings.
Learning to render won't bridge the skill gap between Krenz and RJ. Years spent studying light, value and color from life, will.

>RJ would have a hell of a time trying to be more creative than the fairly safe and generic stuff he makes.
Literally what is so creative about art thats' entire appeal is being painterly anime?

If you want to go the creative route, Yuumei is much more interesting and experimental than Krenz imo. They're both second-rate compared to RJ, though. That's just the way it is.

I personally like having little bits of stark color dabs mixed in to give a painting a more vibrant and cohesive feel.

Comparing Ruan Jia to Jaime Jones, for example: Ruan Jia injects little flashes of contrasting color to his pieces. He'll add desaturated colors to balance high saturated elements, he'll compliment pink hair with green strokes in the strands that aren't clearly noticeable zoomed out, but add a noticeable depth. All of his pieces are like that. Vibrant and dull, in a pretty harmony.

Then you have Jaime Jones, who I adore(for his brush strokes, moreso than color). He'll pick really effective colors to convey a mood, and he knows color harmony and color relationships. However, his work looks a bit flatter because there's no variation within the color. What you see is what you get.

It's like, if you paint a face and pick the prettiest, most effective color for the skin tone and shadow, but forget to add the color zones for flavor, the piece will lack impact.

> I tend to like artists that do more detailed design work and paintings that those impressionistic like guys never do.

>noobs like you
>Your art sucks

shit i love posts like this, because i can screenshot them and put them in my special folder. and then i can always dig them back up draw motivation and lulz from them. there's a lot of screenshots in there already.

my work is nothing spectacular but i'd take any bet it's a lot better than you think.

and i don't agree with your hypothesis about the whole defense mechanism thing. take a guy like brad rigney for instance. this pic is a good example >>2170713 it reads, well composed, values etc etc all there. but it just doesn't take your breath away like the work of mullins, ruan or jaime. it doesn't knock the air out of your lungs with just how excessively fucking good all the nuances of art are working in tandem. it just doesn't. i'm sorry brad. pic related to prove my point.

aside from getting stupidly good, you'll want a ridiculously powerful computer. then you just keep increasing the canvas size until all eternity. on your main monitor you have whichever area you are rendering/refining at x% zoom, on your other secondary monitor you have the whole image in full size. then you render away for a month or so.

i'm 99% sure that's how he does it with his supertight pieces (such as pic related). that being said i prefer his looser work more.
