>I know you weren't talking about bananas taped to a wall
I'm talking about great storytellers and visionary creators, like Kirby, Tezuka, Miyazaki, Eisner, Moebius, Herriman, Crumb, Claire Wendling, Gustave Moreau, William Blake. They're good craftsman, but not mere image makers. Their art is interesting and has something to say.
>will reinforce "human" art that is valued not on the basis of what it is but WHO made it
That's a GOOD thing. Honestly every piece of art I've enjoyed reflected the individual behind it. All those slick Artstation portfolio pieces leave me cold. I don't give a shit if you know how to draw/paint (or let's be honest, use a wacom and PS) if your art is boring as shit.
>"artistic" shit you're actually talking about is largely made by women
lol, no, nearly all were made by men. But hell, art by a quirky female artist like vewn is more interesting than another 500 "look how well I can render in photoshop" wank pieces.

o kings of /ic/ forgive me for enjoying someone's work. just thought she's a good example of a creative artist who breaks the rules & still makes it work.
feel free to post your renderfaggotry or animu pinups that AI is rendering irrelevant while some of us try to broaden our horizons.

>The people who want to hate it of course will nitpick in ways they never do with other art
Like I said in my post, I concluded that 95% of digital art was shit before AI. AI just takes that "impeccable facility but no idiosyncrasy" Artstation aesthetic to its logical conclusion.
>Inevitably stuff like "soulless"
Soul is just shorthand for appeal, intent, and idiosyncrasy despite technical facility. It's why pic related is better art than any AI I have seen, because despite lack of technical facility (maybe intentionally), it reflects the intent and idiosyncrasy of the creator. Content is also a big part of this equation.

>it’s not real capeshit until it’s done traditionally
What I posted wasn't capeshit. I'm not a fan of capeshit. Robert Crumb is my favorite artist of all time.

>Wally was absolutely out of his mind good.
I don't expect many artists to be Wally-level, I just posted him because I believe he is the pinnacle of technical facility and 'soul', and seeing his artist edition revealed what a pathetic tool a computer is compared to a brush and dead wood.
But there are a lot of ways to make great art, and I enjoy art from experimental design to memes to classic illustrators to the ancient Assyrians.

didn't waste time reading this retarded thread. just stopped by to say that I started following this chick's work. she doesn't use perspective. she doesn't know anatomy. there's little to no rendering. yet it's better than 100% of AI art. she connects with an audience who loves her work.
it has to do with content, symbolism, and vision. even if AI copied her style, there's still intentionality and personal meaning in almost every element of her drawing.
stop fetishizing skill & start making art.
