I've been here since 2014, so next year will mark a decade being trapped here.

In that amount of time I graduated highschool, gave up on art, got a normal job driving trucks, quit because I was miserable, tried going back to school for IT, quit because I'm a retard, and now back to driving trucks again. I draw maybe twice a year. The last thing I've drawn is doing a redline of some /beg/s drawing and even then I only did the arm.

In other words, it's going okay I guess.

Everyone called me talented when I was a little kid sure, but if you go and compare yourself to someone like Yusuke Murata it'll just make you feel like shit. Some kids are a little gifted, some kids are really gifted, and some aren't at all. You just have to make your peace with that shit if you aren't and try harder. Life is unfair, blah blah blah, take it up with God when you die.

cont. 2/2

Just start with Hampton until you feel as though you have a basic grasp of anatomy and building the figure, then just start finding artists you really like and try and copy their style. Maybe you really like the way this artists draws faces, maybe another one has a really unique way of drawing hands. This part is where you will start to see massive improvement over a short amount of time. Make sure you FINISH at least some of the stuff you do or you'll burn out.

Lastly, learn to distinguish actually advice from retards who are no better if not worse than you are. I see this ALL the time on /beg/. And when people give you genuinely good advice, even if it's harsh, don't shit the bed.

Picrel was some dude from like a year ago asking me what he was doing wrong, his shit was all fucked up and I just redrew the arm to explain what I meant and he sperged out saying "that's not how it looks in the reference picture" (even though he didn't post the reference picture) and said I had no idea what I was talking about lol.

All in all, learn to separate actual advice from your usual /beg/tard and stop worrying about the speed of your progress.

I gave it a go, but it's late and I only had time for the arm. I don't really ever redline so I apologize if this isn't clear. I tried to show what I mean by "drawing lego pieces".

If you build it chunk by chunk, the perspective becomes easier to manage. And yeah, that's my piece, although it's pretty old now. I haven't had the time to finish anything, I'm tied up with uni right now. Anyway if you have any questions and I see them before I fall asleep I'll answer them. Hope this helps in some way.
