Japanese in general don't know Scott Robertson. I am active on Japanese concept art related twitter circle, most people never heard of half to black etc. I feel like 99% of them come from illustration/ stylized background, they usually have great color sense and do stuff that we relate to Studio Ghibli- it looks great, and has that artsy look to it, not many people are into industrial design look. When they are shown it they are usually surprised by emphasis on perspective accuracy, I was called a "human CG" once, and I was asked multiple times if I use 3D software (because the idea of math approach to perspective and rendering is something they didn't come across before).
