no its not. its written about in many of the best scientific publications on the psychology of vision. Rudolf Arnheim, professor and author of Art and Visual Perception, used the art of ancient Egypt as the best example of symbol drawing. The eye is portrait because that is the clearest visual idea of an eye, but the face and feet are profile because that is the clearest visual idea of those parts of the body. that is the rationale of symbol drawing. you see it all the time in the art of primitives and especially the art of children, which Arnheim and many german gestalt psychologists took interest in.
