I feel you, OP. The pain, the frustration...
The thing you need to understand is that appeal is like one of the fundies - it's complex and it should be studied just like perspective or anatomy. It includes stuff like gesture, rhythm, contrast, anticipation, simplicity, closure, exaggeration, harmony... all found in nature as well as good art.
Take >>3250720 's pic and look for those things, see how areas of high contrast flow into areas of low con., simple shapes, readable silhouettes and pushed rhythms, big/medium/small divisions etc.
These things aren't random, anon.

You've been improving your construction while they've been improving their appeal, right?
So "tumblrinas" will suck at construction until they study it, and you'll suck at appeal until you study that.

I use construction and there's a loomis head under that girl's face.
It's far from perfect, but construction is a tool and loomis is a good teacher. You need to know how to use your tools and how to be a good student.
