I’m not much better than /beg myself, but the two things I’ve heard parroted consistently regarding your issues are that you shouldn’t be afraid to go dark in your values, since a higher level of contrast creates the illusion of form much better. For hair, I’ve heard it’s best to draw it in individual masses rather than strand by strand, though you seem to be doing that, and that you should have the most detail in the midtones of hair.
