Done life drawings in 2018 but no paintings. My first attempt at a selfie meme was done by taking 2 pictures and photoshopping them together and doing the normal grid technique.

Got 35 more sef-portraits to go for muh van gogh race though, and most of them will be either hand-drawn to canvas from life and then hand-painted to canvas with no underdrawing.

no shit they're memes and reaction images solicited from anons on /tv/. Essentially all of them are copyrighted images that I don't own the rights to, transferred with near-exact proportions onto canvas, then fucked up with paint. Pic related may be the only one that I own the original image rights to.

and yeah it really got some gears grinding then too. Although the amount of shit I get for using grids now isn't really that much less than the amount of shit I got when I was tracing. People that want to shitpost will find a way.

not to mention that professional painters doing commissions on a time crunch often do graphite transfers and projections and stuff. And all le masters used grids, particularly muh boy Vinnie. Like part of developing as an artist is learning the fundamentals and understanding the basic theory, and then figuring out how to cheat and be as productive and efficient and stuff. It's one thing to think that graphite transferring to canvas or doing grids is "cheating," but it's another thing to refuse to ever do those methods at all. You're limiting your own skill base because you're still obsessed with circlejerking about proving to yourself that you can draw good.

ITT I asked for people to literally tell me what to do. "Muddiness" is a meme critique to me, and I have a sneaking suspicion that most of the people that say it probably don't have much experience with paint. It's easy to shit on "muddiness" when you "paint" on a digital tablet and you point and click to create a color.

again though this is kind of an annoying thing to say I'm just ALWAYS "using it bad" or whatever. Like I think I did ok on the work I did yesterday on the skin tones of >>3649835 with muh mudschlock strategy.

like this is fair but when I say "I know" and I say that I'm knowingly mixing whites into the pigments and using dirty brushes and stuff and then you just get mad at me. Like I appreciate the point but currently my focus is more about creating a novel aesthetic by creating a continuity of doing things "wrong," so when it gets repeated over and over without empathy it gets annoying.
