/ic/ - Artwork/Critique

I'm completly at loss with this one.
Normally with refferance I have little to no trouble regarding values thus far, but for whatever reason I decided it's a good idea to ref a shroom cap and put a lady underneath it out of fucking nowhere.

Perhaps all would've been nice and dandy if I had at least drawn guidelines beforehand like I usually do, but instead I went right in, painting esque, without any construction or what not.

I've been meddling over this for too long now, trying to make guidelines post-factum, or trying to find highlights and shadows.

But no matter what I do or how I look at it, nothing feels right.
It's a mess, especially visualizing lighting from imagination.
Ugh, maybe it's just the after effects of having taken a break.
